When it came out that presidential candidate Newt Gingrich had a $500,000 revolving line of credit at Tiffany’s, the public was stunned. After all, who needs access to half a million dollars to be spent at a high end jeweler?
But it appears that was the “little line.” He also had another credit line at the store, and that one went up to a full $1 million.
Via USA Today:
The Washington Post reported Gingrich’s financial disclosure report will show the second line of credit at the high-end jewelry store. The reports are due within a month of formal entry into the presidential race, and Gingrich announced on May 11.
Campaign spokesman Joe DeSantis told The Post that the report will show Gingrich and his wife, Callista, “had a $500,ooo to $1 million line of credit at Tiffany’s, that it has zero balance, and it has been closed.”
According to the article, Gingrich’s campaign, which has been bleeding staff like no one’s business, is over $1 million in debt. Maybe Tiffany’s will let him open a new line of credit to pay that off.
Looks like we need to pay a little more attention to the Newt Watch for a while.
