Curious about the group's forecasts of the 11/2 election. Which side of these two totals:

Republican Pickups in the US House- Total 56.5

Republican Pickups in the US Senate- Total 7.5

    Opinions please....

I think the Tea party is going to hurt the GOP's chances. I know the Tea Party likes to claim that they're independant, but out of the 133 tea party memebers on ballots, ALL 133 are on the GOP ticket. Anytime there's a split in a party, that party doesn't do as well as expected. This race reminds me of the election of 1912. There was a split in the GOP party between Taft and Teddy Roosevelt-they split the votes and that enabled Woodrow Wison to come in and win the race.

There is no doubt that they helped in the House, but the Senate is a different story. The tea party backed losers in 3-4 key races. Deleware, Nevada, Colorado, and West Virg. If the GOP would have run the candidates they wanted to then they would have won those 4 seats, and they would have control of the Senate. Also, only 32% of the Tea party candidates won their races-which isn't bad, but I think if more moderate candidates ran for the GOP then they would've picked up even more seats in the house then they did. I will say the tea party won 5 Sen seats:KY, FL,Wisconsin, Utah, and PA. The GOP has some thinking to do, and if they're smart they shouldn't run Palin in 2012 because she will get smoked by Obama. If unemployment is still around 9% in 2012 they should have a chance to take him dowm, but a tea party candidate would lose....
