These guys are in here standing up for the big oil companies and goldman sachs. Then they take shots at americans who lost their jobs because of the economy. They all scream at the unemployed but stick up for bp,goldman sachs, mobil,

They all must be multi millionaires.

I dont hate people for becoming sucessful but I do hate firms that cut corners cost people their lives to save a couple of thousands dollars and companies that destroy our eco systems.

But guys IN HERE COME DEFEND THEM and knock people with homes and kids who are looking for work but need their unemployment extensions........................

        Unreal

MM, I have a legit question for you. No name calling please. How long do you think someone should receive unemployment benefits? Do you think there should be a set time frame or do you think it should be open-ended?

This has nothing to do with the topic. The topic is republicans support for big financial houses and oil companies. I mean this is how screwed up some people are in this country. The major financial players in this country played monopoly with tax payer money and the republicans vote against reform. Then they apologize for the president hitting bp. Do middle class americans see this??? Are you guys awake? Anyone who makes less than 75000 a year who supports republicans need to look at what republicans support.

Im on topic the reason I bought up unemployment is because they voted against that but voted to help save jpmorgan and BRITISH PETROLEUM!!!!!!

During recession periods unemployment benefits should be extended till the FED says economic recovery is in full swing so if it takes 12-24 months and the country is still in a recession period then thats acceptable.

ESPECIALLY FOR FAMILIES WITH KIDS, WHO HAD HEALTH INSURANCE STOPPED!

republicans found a way to vote against that as well!!!!!!!!!

I asked b/c you brought up the topic of unemployment. So 52-104 weeks is your answer. How long have the last extensions, after state money has stopped, lengthened the time to?

You use the word "they" in reference to apologizing. Did someone else besides Barton apologize? I know Bachman has had some comments but I don't recall other apologies.

I think a lot of dems and pubs voted to save jp and all other financials. Don't know what BP vote you are referring to.

Lastly, the children of most families with no income fall into SCHIP and adults will probably qualify for Medicaid and food stamps. Plus the uninsured get care all the time, so I think many survive with health insurance.

Not only that, but Citi Group and Bank of America have over 100 subsidiaries in the Cayman Islands so they can pay less taxes. All of the big corps do this shit along with the richest people in the world. I don't think we have posters that are CEO's or millionaires on this site so I don't understand how they think it's fair that these places get away with it. The loopholes need to be closed.

It's a good question on how long unemployment benefits should run. I don't really know the answer as we are in a bad economic times. Depending on how bad times are I think effects how long unemployment checks should keep going.

A lot of these people unemployed cannot go get a Job that pays anywhere near what they were making or even in the same field. So are they to go and work at McDonald's for $7.25 an hour? If so how can they get by on that if they were making $30k-$45k a year.

Because they believe in Capitalism and that rich people in this country deserve tax breaks so they can continue to make investors happy and their retirement funds will continue to climb and they continue to become richer and richer, rather than give back to people who are not rich.

They are more worried about some poor sap who lives on food stamps and $12k per year, rather than the billions in tax benefits and loopholes the rich use to become richer. But they'll complain like hell because poor people on welfare aren't working or out there finding jobs, but they are plenty OK with these multimillion dollar companies outsourcing jobs to China.

I'm willing to bet 75% (bare minimum) of welfare funds here are distributed in an isolated area. Which happens to be the place where the highest % of violent crimes are committed, gang activity, and flat out dangerous.

how about this. after 26 weeks, you have to get a job, and the govt will make up the difference of what you were getting for unemployment?

Makes no sense, because they aren't getting any of the money.

Panties in a bunch? Some of us aren't on 24/7

What you said would be fine with me, but can the Government afford to do that? Then again if someone is making $30-$45k a year and gets a job at McDonalds for $7.25 an hour that is a little over $15k a year. So are you saying that the Government would then pay the different in the check of $301 a week and what they were getting originally from unemployment or their regular job?
