  • Republican Senators Blocks Homeless Veterans Bill

Senator Patty Murray today called up a homeless women veterans bill on the Senate floor but it was blocked by Senate Republicans. The bill was introduced in June of 2009 and passed the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee on January 28, 2010 with strong bi-partisan support.

"I am deeply disappointed that Senate Republicans continued to put politics above people and blocked my bill that would provide support for homeless women veterans and their families," said Senator Patty Murray. "This is a bipartisan, common-sense bill that would support veterans in my home state of Washington and across the country. I am going to continue fighting for it to pass. And I urge Senate Republicans to end their obstruction and allow homeless women veterans across the country to get the support they have earned."

I guess are veterans that fought to for our freedom deserve to live on the streets. Hell we still have veterans from Vietnam that were treated like shit when they came home on the streets so I guess it doesn't matter.

because they fought for us and sacrificed their lives for us. I think we at least owe them a discussion. If people really supported the troops they would make sure they were taken care of once they served their time.

I did not, but I want all vets taken care of and at the moment they are not.

Exactly my point of why this women only bill was a waste of time.

it's not a waste of time. they too served our country, so they should have their time on the floor.

There shouldn't be a gender based veterans bill. All or nothing imo.

Women make up 20% of the armed forces. Why make up a bill that leaves the overwhelming majority out?

                    Waste of time...

Maybe there is a bill for men already who knows, but the fact that republicans voted it down means jack shit to you. These people defend our Country and it's a waste of time.

Monte, you know I support our troops more than anyone else on the site. It's just a waste of time to even try to get something like this passed! Male or female, a gender biased military bill is going nowhere and is a waste of time! All I'm trying to say

Listen I don't care if it's gender based or not because these women do not deserve to be living on the streets. And was it brought up by anyone hey we would be for this bill if it wasn't gender based and covered all veterans? If not why not? Like I said there may be a bill out there for men I don't have a clue.

I just don't think it's a waste of time, because as a Democrat I would say hey wait a minute why are we only covering women? The republicans should have said the same thing.

I can point out another case where a couple lost their home, because the HOA fee's were like $800 a month and they missed paying a month as her husband was over seas fighting for us. Well the HOA sold the house for like $3k and the house was paid off by the original owners. The original owners got no word of notice either about the sell. The guy that bought the house sold if for like $300k. The wife is still living in the house and I believe her husband is still over seas fighting. However, in the case they could very well be out on the streets too.
