We Need To Wean Ourselves From Our Dirty Oil Addiction

big country, we are running out of oil. We are having to drill deeper and deeper to get what's left. We do need to find another alternate, but I don't have a lof of answers. I hope you're not right but I wouldn't bet against you that we will be using cars in the next 50 years. However, we can use electric cars if they were around-which there were 10-15 years ago; they had tons of horse power, but you couldn't drive them as far as gas cars. But if you don't think there's anything wrong with using oil I would like to invite you down to my beach hut in Orange Beach, tar balls began to roll up there 2 Saturdays ago, and the whole community is getting hit hard. Beaches are empty, bars and resturaunts are empty and people are hurting really bad. So, I can agree with you that we might be using gas cars in the next 50 years because we don't have any other real alternatives yet, but you have to admit that the cost of using oil hurts not only the enviroment but people. People are going broke because of this oil spill, so for you to say there is nothing wrong with us using oil is false, and I hope you can see that. I think you can."It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so." -Mark Twain

I would like to state that there is a little silver lining in the oil spill case. I would have to bet that its harder for those british assholes to get laid now because their accents are no longer sexy."It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so." -Mark Twain

I am not downgrading the impact of the spill. It will be years before the gulf will be close to normal. My heart breaks for the people and the buisnesses that are affected by this spill. However,I disagree with the statement that we're "running out of oil".People talk about electric cars....how bout the batteries.Where do you dispose of billions of batteries with acid in them?I think that could be just as an enviromental hazard as oil.Unfortunately, accidents happen.Should BP pay....absolutely.Is it a tragic event.....absolutely,but I just dont see a viable alternative.

I urge you to watch the movie: End of Suburbia, Matthew Simmons who is the CEO of the world's largest Energy Investment Bank, Simmons & Co. International, with clients including Halliburton and the World Bank. Simmons is a also a member of the US Council on Foreign Relations and the National Petroleum Council's Natural Gas Task Force and, as such, has contributed "insider" perspective and hard facts to the study of Peak Oil and its effects. this is a subject that's not just scaring the hell out of some crazy hippies. This guy is an Oil and Gas guy and he knows we're running out. Oil is a natural resoure-they do run out. Look what happend to us in the 1970 here in the US, our own production drop tremendously- I know a lot of you were not around then, but we were waiting in line for gas for hours on end, some of us could only go on certain days. In addition, there are more people using oil now than ever before, China and India alone have somewhere in the neighborhood of over 1 billion new users of cars- that scares the hell out of me. Electric cars can work, watch the movie "Who Killed the Electric Car" I know I was a bit skeptical going into the movie, but I must admit that it could work if suitable infrastructure was in place, is it perfect, I would bet that its not, but we cannot accept the staus quo or we are just as bad as the BP execs. We have to put pressure on our elected officials because God knows they're getting a big earfull from the oil and gas lobby."It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so." -Mark Twain

natural gas is the only easy alternative to gas for vehicles. we won't be running out of fossil fuels any time soon. probably 100 years. environmentalists have been playing this card for what, 50 years? it's old, not true then, and not true now. by the time we are REALLY close to running out of fossil fuels, science will have perfected solar, fusion, or something not even thought of today.“A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have."

i agree with this and have said it many times before. you are making things up again about not agreeing with you on anything. why not mention the rep's controlled congress the last 6 years of clinton's presidency? that's right you aren't biased.“A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have."

i was around in the 70's so your BS doesn't work with me. i guess you are just pissed that i keep catching you making things up to try and promote your liber agenda. looks like i was right. from 1973 oil crisis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Government price controls further exacerbated the crisis in the United States,[24] which limited the price of "old oil" (that already discovered) while allowing newly discovered oil to be sold at a higher price, resulting in a withdrawal of old oil from the market and the creation of artificial scarcity.“A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have."

i have never called you a POS or anything close. all i have done was prove you have been wrong, put words in my mouth, and exaggerated things many times just to try and make a point.

Do you not agree with me on that point? I' m not sure how the do it in louisiana, but I know that here in Alabama and a lot of other states, judges run for office just like other reps and senators do. this is something that I don't agree with, I think judges should be appointed because shouldn't have to worry about making rulings that appeal to their base.
i do agree if there is a conflict of interest, he should not take the case.
