  • Congressman to BP: "I apologize"

    Background
On June 17, BP CEO Tony Hayward appeared on Capitol Hill to testify for the first time regarding the oil spill disaster. Unbelievably, the ranking committee member, Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX), apologized to the BP CEO, calling it a tragedy that a private corporation was being forced to pay back Gulf Coast victims.

It’s absurd, and we need to make sure that our elected leaders will not get away with putting the interests of dirty energy companies ahead of all the rest of us.

Please share this video with your friends and tell them to support our efforts to end our addiction to fossil fuels and transition to a clean energy economy.

Holy shit. What an asshole is right. Not surprised though. The former Texas governor and US president was just as filthy.

he's right, it is a shake down. if BP doesn't re-reimburse legitimate claims like they say they will, the courts will go after them and THEN maybe the govt will have to intervene.

BP donated a very large sum to Obama's campaign.

Why doesnt Obama give that money back to the people in the Gulf?

Typical dipshit post from you of course. When Flare asked about Obama donations and BP ties, you ...I comment BP paid for Rahm's apt..you are clueless. BP has just as many, if not more ties to this piece of shit president as to repubs.

Please do me a favor. If you are going to continue to put words into my posts like above, put me on ignore. IMO, you are a worthless piece of shit like our president. I am sure I will get banned, but since you don't have the ability to post intelligently, then please don't respond at all. Thanks.

well said. all he does is make things up, and then tell people to prove that what he says isn't correct. i guess he believes all the lies he posts, so everyone else should also.

The fund is a great idea. It will get something from BP now. It may not be close to 1 billion but if BP files a BK they can skip out of paying one cent...

I agree that the fund is a good idea, I just don't think having the admin controlling it is wise. IMO, BP did it to try and save some PR out of this mess. Since they have said from the very beginning that they would pay all "legit" claims, this now puts some teeth into those words. But the govt doling it out isn't wise. Hell they'll burn through 5 billion in a month!!

And I guarantee you there are those in BOTH parties that feel this was a shakedown, but only a few were stupid enough to speak it.

Why else do you have the AG in a meeting to get money when they are conducting a criminal investigation?

How about instead of spinning this thread about a shake down which is BS. And talking about how BP fucked up and our own Government allowed them to drill in the ocean with no fail safe.

That's exactly right. Trying to deflect the imbecilic comment from an oil schilling moron from Texas and spin it into something pre spill. Not surprised at all...They do it all the time.
