  • Republican's in the right.....

Two Republican governors, Florida's Gov. Charlie Crist and California's Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and their thoughts on the current administration's policies to get this country back on track....I applaud both of them for coming out and realizing this country needed to support the president because we were on the brink of disaster.

I'll post their full stories in separate posts.....

Crist: No regrets over stimulus support
    Posted: February 22nd, 2010 10:34 AM ET’

Washington (CNN) – Florida Gov. Charlie Crist said Monday he has no regrets about supporting President Obama's stimulus package last year, an endorsement that has cost him precious support among conservatives in his Senate primary battle against former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio.

"It was the right thing to do," Crist said in an appearance on MSNBC. "Our economy was going off into the abyss and if we didn't have those monies, we would have had 87,000 people out of work today in the Sunshine State. Twenty thousand of those are educators, and how many people does that translate into in terms of the children they teach?

"It was the right thing to do. We needed the money. That's why what every Republican governor in the country took it. It was a common sense approach to take it."

Crist noted that he would not support a second stimulus package.

The governor also defended himself from conservative critics who continue to hector him for appearing with President Obama at a rally for the Recovery Act last February.

"I am a guy who understands that the President of the United States deserves respect, and when the president comes to my state and it's the first time he comes to Florida after he is sworn in about a month before, I am going to be there and represent the people of my state, because I am the governor of all the people, all the 20 million people who live in Florida almost, I am the governor," Crist said.

Crist said there is "no way" he will lose the August primary to Rubio despite his trailing poll numbers. "I am going to win," he promised.

      By Michael Rothfeld. LA Times.
      February 22, 2010

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger criticized fellow Republicans on Sunday as being hypocritical when they trash the federal stimulus program, and he dismissed the "tea party" movement as "just an expression of anger and dissatisfaction."

Schwarzenegger spoke on ABC's "This Week," on which he appeared with Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell, a Democrat.

Host Terry Moran played a clip of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who sought the GOP presidential nomination in 2008, attacking President Obama and saying the stimulus hadn't created any private-sector jobs.

"I find it interesting that you have a lot of the Republicans running around and pushing back on the stimulus money and saying this doesn't create any new jobs," said Schwarzenegger, who has frequently criticized national Republicans, often on Sunday talk shows. "And then they go out and they do the photo ops and they are posing with the big check and they say, 'Isn't this great? Look what kind of money I provide here for the state.' . . . It doesn't match up."

Obama made similar comments about the GOP last week.

Schwarzenegger, in Washington for the National Governors Assn. conference, has a private meeting scheduled with Obama on Monday, in which he is expected to seek more federal aid for California.

He urged his party to work with the Democratic president.

"I don't want to beat up on my Republican colleagues, but I think it's kind of politics rather than thinking about only one thing, and this is, how do we support the president?" he said. "How do we support him and do everything we can in order to stimulate the economy?"

When Moran asked if the GOP was "the party of no," Schwarzenegger said Republican opposition to Obama was driven by the party's desire to win elections.

"They have to do everything they can in order to win in November, so they are going to say no to everything," Schwarzenegger said. "They are going to say it is not good what Obama is doing. It is natural."

At the same time, he said, Republicans are tapping into voter anger, which is embodied by tea party groups that oppose taxes, illegal immigration and a host of other issues. But Schwarzenegger suggested the movement is unproductive.

"The tea party is not going to go anywhere. I think the tea party is all about just an expression of anger and dissatisfaction," he said.

"And I see it in California when people come up to me and say, 'You know I am angry that you guys don't get along in Sacramento, I am angry that they are not getting along in Washington, I am angry that nothing gets done, I am angry that I am unemployed, I am angry that people are losing homes, I am angry that businesses are losing their businesses and all of those kind of things and the economy is down.' I'm sure you were also applauding Zell Miller and Lieberman when they were willing to put partisan politics aside and vote with their mind and not their party when Bush was in.

Arnold and California need stimulus money just to pay the bills. Liberal polcies have bankrupted the State so he is looking for the Feds to bail em out.

He is out of touch if he thinks the tea party movement has no traction. All these phony politicians are on notice.

BTW, Congress has a 10% apporval rating: from Rasmussen:

Voter unhappiness with Congress has reached the highest level ever recorded by Rasmussen Reports as 71% now say the legislature is doing a poor job.

That’s up ten points from the previous high of 61% reached a month ago.

Only 10% of voters say Congress is doing a good or excellent job.

Nearly half of Democratic voters (48%) now give Congress a poor rating, up 17 points since January. The vast majority of Republicans and voters not affiliated with either party also give Congress poor ratings.
