  • Glenn Beck's gold-gate problem

Tue Dec 8, 3:47 pm ET
Yet another controversy appears to be brewing around Fox News host Glenn Beck. Some are accusing him of a blatant conflict of interest concerning his frequent on-air promotion of an investment sold by one of his main advertisers: Gold.
For some time Beck critics have cried foul over his relationship with Goldline International, a precious metals vendor that features the TV and radio host's endorsement prominently on their website. Critics charge that Beck is guilty of misleading his audience by often advising them to purchase gold in advance of the potential collapse of the value of the dollar on the world currency market, without disclosing that he is in fact a "paid spokesman" for Goldline. Beck's on-air promotion of gold, which includes advising viewers to construct "fruit cellars" and to rely on a "three G system" of "God, Gold, and Guns" in the event of America's collapse, dates back to his time as a host for CNN Headline News.

did you ever think it could be the other way around? the advertiser wants to advertise on his show because they know his views on the economy, dollar, etc.

What kills me about these type of guy's is that they get on TV and radio and cry about how Washington is taking all your money, and how they are doing everyone wrong. In the meantime, the same people like Beck, Savage, and O'Reilly (all advertise gold for your portfolio) are writting books it seems about once a month. Most become #1 best sellers because they get all these sheep to follow them, support them, trust them. Then they turn around and fuck them just like the Government. All for that buck. You would think with all the money that they have, that they would have some kind of scruples when it comes to advertising for a product.

Tell me, what does Al Gore advertise? And if your reply is global warming, than don't reply at all because that's a cause and a issue, not a product, OK. Furthermore I haven't seen, or heard of Kieth Oberman, or Chris Matthews writting a book and endorsing products. Not that I'm a fan of Oberman by any means but show me a list of " T.V left wingers" that write books AND endorse's products. I'm not saying that there isn't any, but I don't think you will find as many on the left as you would on the right, because on the right it's never enough. And yeah, Bill say's he does donate a pecentage of what he makes, but then again just like everyone with an agenda. They'll do whatever it takes to achieve it, and if that means miss leading you and ripping you off than so be it.

Didn't Al Gore have a movie? Doesn't he get paid for lectures? Isn't he selling himself out with handshakes and drinks in Copenhagen for $1200a pop? I don't think you have to be a TV show host to be a salesman. Also, I am not 100% surem but doesn't he have ownership or a stake in carbon offsets?

there are many ways tree hugger al will benefit from his fear mongering.

Gore and other members of the Copenhagen Climate Council, including the world’s largest producer of wind turbines, Vestas, present their demands for carbon-trading schemes as altruistic efforts to clean up the planet. In truth, these green-leaning profit-making machines stand to gain significantly if the activities of their less green competitors are hampered by government demands.

Ok, you showed me the books (which I didn't deny) now how about the PRODUCTS? You guy's are missing what's being said and spinning it. We are talking about selling a product that they know is not really worth a damn. They might as well be on T.V selling products for $19.95 because there is no difference. That's what we are talking about.

I've always wondered why conservatives do not care about the earth that "God" created. If one thinks global warming is real or not, I think we should conserve energy, just in case it is real. Btw, you all know the way I feel in regards to energy consumption. People shouldn't be so self-absorbed, and we should all try to leave mother earth in the best shape that we can.

This is so dumb on so many levels I don't even know where to begin. Alright, I'll hit the highlights........THESE GUYS ARE A BUSINESS. BUSINESSES ARE SUPPOSED TO MAKE PROFITS. It is was our economy was founded on. Holy crap, man, did I really need to spell that out? Regardless of what they peddle, YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY IT! Crazy, I know.

Government on the other hand is not supposed to be a business. They take our money.....no option......and waste it on crap that most people don't want it spent on. See the difference? Yeah, terrible guys. You may not agree with them, but that doesn't make them wrong. Obviously millions and millions of people feel they speak the truth.

I'm kind of slow, please spell out some example of me how these guys "turn around and fuck them just like the government?"

These guys are also very philanthropic as well. They work hard, found a market, speak common sense, make a shit load money ( I know that makes them eveil to libs), and they give back more to help people than 99% of us could dream of.

did you go to a public school? Question: if pubs hate government so much, then why do they run for office? I don't understand how one can wrap themselves in patriotism, but hate the government. Seems pretty unpatriotic to me.

                          Yes, all republicans hate government

Do I really have to answer that extremely obvious question? In theory Republicans want limited government. Government clearly has its role, but one has to be retarded to not think government is completely out of control. Don't make this a republican/democrat thing either, it misses the point. Both sides are out of control, with Republicans only marginally better that democrats.

Oh, by the way I'm not a republican. I'll also be more than happy to compare education levels, but that seems a little childish to me.

This is so ridiculous. Glenn Beck's problem is a Gold commercial???? Are you all high??? Are you all morons????? Glenn Beck's problem is that he is a pathologically insane fear-mongerer who preys on the uneducated, the mentally deficient, and those blind to simple truths by their allegiance to religious absurdity. Glenn Beck is a FANTASTIC capitalist, who sells a worldview of hopelessness and despair to better himself. There are those who choose to contribute to this laughable cynicism, those who recognize him as a charlatan, no different than Jim Bakker, and those who actually get worked up about the fact that Glenn Beck is about as legitimate in his field as Hulk Hogan in his --- yes, Glenn Beck gets rich from telling you that the sky is falling, Obama is a Kenyan Socialist, and that you should put all your hard-earned money in HIS companies. If you choose to listen, you are everything Darwin spoke of-- good luck, if you choose to REALLY get heated up, you are fighting a hopeless cause to protect those with an IQ below 65 -- better luck.

my hole point was that you said that gov spends money on things nobody wants. if you went to a public school you should thank the gov; state and fed.
