Lou Dobbs resigns

NEW YORK – John King is replacing Lou Dobbs on CNN.

John Klein, CNN president, said Thursday that veteran reporter King will move into the 7 p.m. EST (0000 GMT) slot that's been vacated by Lou Dobbs. King will host a show about politics beginning early next year.

That puts him in direct competition with MSNBC's Chris Matthews, whose "Hardball" is also about politics. Fox News Channel's Shepard Smith, who does a more general interest newscast, dominates the cable news ratings in that hour.

Dobbs announced abruptly Wednesday evening that Wednesday would be his last show on CNN. He said he wanted to pursue more advocacy journalism, a route that was no longer available to him on CNN.

i pretty sure his show wasn't controlled by the white house. maybe they are trying to and he is tired of fighting the battle. i knew him when cnn was just starting and being broadcast from the world trade center almost 30 years ago. he was a down to earth, great guy.

wow im surprised husker(ripping coulter). out of all the conservatives dobbs was one of the few I could watch. His stuff wasnt as over the top as limbaugh or glenn beck.

They are intentionally over the top to some degree b/c it gets them publicity, which in turns gets the ratings, which in turn gets them advertisters, which in turn gets the millions of dollars. People that love them and hate them tune in to listen, which is why their audiences are so frickin big. If they didn't say controversial things every now and then people wouldn't tune in. He does have one thing working against him: a college degree. Seems if you want to make it to the big time at fox you need to be a stupid narcissistic puppet. Example, Sean Hannity and Glen Beck. Neither went to college. Neither is qualified. Neither reports the news. All they do is give their opinions, which is coming from a person with a high school degree. You're right on here. But, people actually think these people are experts, when they're far from it. The chase for ratings are killing us as a nation slowly.

there has to be more than just the shock thing. olberman and maddow's ratings are the bottom of the barrel, so this doesn't support your theory. i won't watch olberman, maddow, ed, or coulter who is fox's version of MSNBC's odonnell (when they are on). MSNBC is ok in the morning with ratigan (from CNBC), and scarborough, but they pander to the left wingnuts at night, and their ratings show it. shock jock or not, it doesn't matter.
