  • Best Convention Speeches Of the Last 40 Years

I'm not referring to politics, I mean the delivery and style.

    6. Mario Cuomo----Democrats 84
    5. Ronald Reagan---Republicans 76
    4. Barack Obama---Democrats 08
    3. Barack Obama---Democrats 04
    2. Sarah Palin---Republicans 08
    1 (tie). Gerald Ford---Republicans 76
    1 (tie). Jesse Jackson---democrats 84

Ford's was amazing because he was normally a terribly dull speaker. Jesse's was Jackson at his best, talking about working people taking the early bus.

Palin this year reminded me of Obama four years ago---in both cases a star was born coming out of nowhere.

    Worst convention speeches ever

    3. Bill Clinton Democrats 88
    2. Walter Mondale Democrats 84
    1. Pat Buchanan Republicans 92

Speeches mean very little and only show the skills of the people writing them.
The debates are infinitely more important in my opinion as they show the different candidates' abilities to think quickly on their feet.
I pay as much if not more attention to see/hear the thought processes during the debates as I pay attention to the responses;words mean shit-anyone can say anything they want to during speeches and debates in order to get elected.
Thought processes are much harder to hide and are much more telling and indicative of one's intelligence.

Are you a Republican or did you copy and paste this from one?

Why would you ask that? Both lists are bipartisan.

This is a little off subject, but as I write this, I am listening to Mario Cuomo talk on Larry King.
I have heard this man speak before, and all things considered,I think this man is brilliant and has thought processes which I totally admire, the kind I think which are needed in a President.
Folks like this are not considered electable because they are usually too intellectual for the average guy, who doesn't have the depth or interest to really listen to or totally comprehend what they are saying.

What did everyone think of Mccain's speech last night?
From my point of view, it didn't hit me as anything special-neither on the great side nor on the bad side.
Then again, as I stated before, Presidential convention and campaign speeches are of little value to begin with.
