Bush Says Drill, Drill, Drill — and Oil Drops $9! [Larry Kudlow]

In a dramatic move yesterday President Bush removed the executive-branch moratorium on offshore drilling. Today, at a news conference, Bush repeated his new position, and slammed the Democratic Congress for not removing the congressional moratorium on the Outer Continental Shelf and elsewhere. Crude-oil futures for August delivery plunged $9.26, or 6.3 percent, almost immediately as Bush was speaking, bringing the barrel price down to $136.

    Now isn’t this interesting?

Democrats keep saying that it will take 10 years or longer to produce oil from the offshore areas. And they say that oil prices won’t decline for at least that long. And they, along with Obama and McCain, bash so-called oil speculators. And today we had a real-world example as to why they are wrong. All of them. Reid, Pelosi, Obama, McCain — all of them.

Traders took a look at a feisty and aggressive George Bush and started selling the market well before a single new drop of oil has been lifted. What does this tell us? Well, if Congress moves to seal the deal, oil prices will probably keep on falling. That’s the way traders work. They discount the future. Psychology and expectations can turn on a dime.

The congressional ban on offshore drilling expires September 30, so that becomes a key date. A new report from Wall Street research house Sanford C. Bernstein says that California actually could start producing new oil within one year if the moratorium were lifted. The California oil is under shallow water and already has been explored. Drilling platforms have been in place since before the moratorium. They’re talking about 10 billion barrels worth off the coast of California.

There’s also a “gang of 10” in the Senate, five Republicans and five Democrats, that is trying to work a compromise deal on lifting the moratorium. So it’s possible a lot of action on this front could occur much sooner than people seem to think.

So I repeat: Drill, drill, drill. Deregulate, decontrol, and unleash the American energy industry. Those hated traders will then keep selling oil as the laws of supply and demand and free markets keep working.

Bravo for Bush. Bravo for the traders.

If we dont drill, China will.

Good post TDC, this makes so much sense which is why Dems will ridicule it. Congress has fucked us over pretty good.

                On a lighter note

                You gotta love Robin Williams......
Even if he's nuts! Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect plan. What we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message.

Robin Williams's plan... (Hard to argue with this logic!)

"I see a lot of people yelling for peace,
but I have not heard of a plan for
                peace. So, here's one plan.

                1) "The US will apologize to the world for our 'interference' in their affairs, past & present. You know: Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic , Hussein, and the rest of those 'good ole boys;' we will never 'interfere' again.

                2) "We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea, the Middle East, and the Philippines They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one allowed sneaking through holes in the fence.

                3) "All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We'll give them a free trip home After 90 days, the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of who or where they are. They're illegal!!! France will welcome them.

                4) "All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit!!!! No one from a terrorist nation will be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself and don't hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.

;5) "No foreign 'students' over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a D, and it's back home, baby.

                6) "The US will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy-wise. This will include developing nonpolluting sources of energy, but will require temporary drilling for oil in the Alaska wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.

                7) "Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil-producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)

                8) "If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not 'interfere.' They can pray to Allah, or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement, or whatever they need. Besides, most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if anything.

                9) "Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island someplace. We don't need the spies and fair-weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

                10) "All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us 'Ugly Americans' any longer. The language we speak is ENGLISH...learn it...or LEAVE."

"Now, isn't that a winner of a plan?"

"The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying, 'Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses' She's got a baseball bat, and she's yelling, 'You want a piece of me?' "

If you agree with the above, forward
it to friends..If not, and I would be amazed, DELETE it!! GOD BLESS AMERICA

                  JC,

I hate making foriegn nations rich off our addiction to oil but many things are made from oil too - plastics, asphalt for roads, medical supplies etc. We have to produce more here as well as look to alternaives at the same time. Why bankrupt the country on energy costs when we should be throwing everthing a the problem while looking to the future.

Fuck OPEC, Chavez and all the rest of em.

A call to tap oil reserves
Democrats say they are for drilling, but argue that oil companies aren't going after the oil where they already have leases. So why open new, protected areas? they ask. Democrats say there are 68 million acres of federal land and waters where oil and gas companies hold leases, but aren't producing oil.

"Americans are fed up every time they go to fill up and they're right to demand action. But instead of a serious response, President Bush and his allies simply repeat the same old line more drilling," Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., said in the Democrats' radio address.

"Democrats support more drilling," he said. "In fact, what the president hasn't told you is that the oil companies are already sitting on 68 million acres of federal lands with the potential to nearly double U.S. oil production. That is why in the coming days congressional Democrats will vote on 'Use It or Lose It' legislation requiring the big oil companies to develop these resources or lose their leases to someone else who will."

With oil at $140 it makes no sense just to sit on the land especially after they have spent millions to lease it, does it? If there was recoverable oil there it would be flowing by now at these prices. Offshore drilling and in ANWAR will cost billions in infastructure to get the oil out of there and help drive down the price of oil with increased supply. What possible logical reason would oil companies have for not pumping oil now at these prices in these leased areas? It defies logic that they'd rather wait several years and spend billions more and risk the price of oil falling just to drill offshore when they could capitalize on the market now. The Dems should just admit that they are more worried about global warming and pandering to the environmentalists than utilizing our natural resources here. As bad as the Repubs have it now, this is going to be a HUGE issue in the election and the Dems are handing it to them on a silver platter. If the GOP isn't trounced and OHB isn't President in November they will only have themselves to blame.

This isn't just made up.....They are saying we could double oil production. I had heard MANY times over the years that we have enough oil reserves for 100's of years even at the rate we use it. We are just falling into the oil companies hands by allowing them to increase these prices through fear and allowing them to sit on what they have. This goes right back to Cheney and Bush helping their brothers out.

Putting pressure on these greedy bastards is exactly what needs to be done. You either get the oil out of the land you have pigs, or you will lose your right to drill for it.....

BEST MOVE TO END THIS SHIT TO DATE!!!!!!!!!!!!
