I think Obama is off his rocker talking about this crap. Talking about, Europeans coming over here know how to speak english. To be honest how many people in America go to Europe, or Mexico more than once in their life time, if not at all? And we Americans are suppose to learn all these languages because we may visit these places once, maybe? You have to be kidding me! Not many people move from the United States to go live in Europe or Mexico it's the other way around. I asked a friend who is mexican and who BTW is moving back to Mexico next year. If I were to go to Mexico would I find things in english like on billboards or on products? He said no. Enough said! You come here you should live by our rules, not by what you left behind!

What he said would have made more sense had this guy posted the rest of that quote from that speech. But only the part to make people incensed was quoted......

The rest of what he said went:
"We should understand that our young people, if you have a foreign language, that is a powerful tool to get a job. You are so much more employable. You can be part of international business. So we should be emphasizing foreign languages in our schools from an early age, because children will actually learn a foreign language easier when they’re 5, or 6, or 7 than when they’re 46, like me."


They're are many jobs where employers are looking for Asian or Spanish speaking people. Mostly Asian and Spanish people get them. There's nothing wrong with educating your children and wanting them to be more employable.

I don't think they should be speaking ebonics either. That's not English. English will ALWAYS be stressed and taught at every level of school.

I had to take a foreign language while I was in school and so did my brother. That spands the 70's for him and the 80's for me. What Obama is getting across is that learning a second language at a young age will only benefit the child later on in life. Asians and Hispanics are not going away in this country and companies are not just going to dismiss them as customers.......Glad we finally agree on something.

I have been to Europe 5 times used to take high school students. it a great place to visit. they have a lot of history.


What is funny I know Barry when he played basketball in high school here in Hawaii. He could play hoops. Did anyone read the SI about Punahou School here in Hawaii? Barry went to that school.

I think it's cool to have played hoops against someone who might become President!!
