  • Jimmy Carter calls Cheney a "disaster" for U.S

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter on Wednesday denounced Vice President Dick Cheney as a "disaster" for the country and a "militant" who has had an excessive influence in setting foreign policy.

Cheney has been on the wrong side of the debate on many issues, including an internal White House discussion over Syria in which the vice president is thought to be pushing a tough approach, Carter said.

"He's a militant who avoided any service of his own in the military and he has been most forceful in the last 10 years or more in fulfilling some of his more ancient commitments that the United States has a right to inject its power through military means in other parts of the world," Carter told the BBC World News America in an interview to air later on Wednesday.

"You know he's been a disaster for our country," Carter said. "I think he's been overly persuasive on President George Bush and quite often he's prevailed."

Asked to comment on Carter's remarks, Megan Mitchell, a spokeswoman for the Republican vice president, said, "We're not going to engage in this type of rhetoric."

Carter, a Democrat who was president from 1977 to 1981 and won the 2002 Nobel Peace prize for his charitable work, is a strong critic of the Iraq war and has often been outspoken in his criticism of President George W. Bush.

In a newspaper interview in May, Carter called the Bush administration the "worst in history" in international relations.

Carter did have kind words in the BBC interview for U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"I'm filled with admiration for Condoleezza Rice in standing up to (Cheney) which she did even when she was in the White House under President George W. Bush," Carter said, referring to Rice's former role as White House national security adviser.

"Now secretary of state, her influence is obviously greater than it was then and I hope she prevails," Carter added.

Austin (AP)- Vice President Dick Cheney sent out a formal invitation to ex-President Jimmy Carter to attend his second annual dove hunt in Flatbush, Texas.
"I called Jimmy to extend my sincere thoughts after I read his remarks about me posted on the Bettorschat website, so I wished him well, and invited him down for a weekend of road-hunting and beer guzzling..." the Vice President reported.
While there is no confirmation as to whether or not Carter accepted Cheney's offer, there were reports that Dick Cheney was seen down at Uncle Billy Bob's Sporting Goods and Beer Distributor loading boxes of 12 guage bird shot and six cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon into the back of a black Chevy Suburban.

Its such a joke that this fuckin pussy Jimmy Carter was ever president! All I remember is as a kid waiting in long lines for gas back in Jersey. All he does now is run his mouth and give all our enemies more ammo. This guy should fuckin die already. Maybe he should go hunting with Cheney!

Carter Is Right About Cheney's Military Time

                    P.s

Carter Hit The Nail Right On He Head With Cheney And His Golf Playing Buddy Bush. Neither Of These Imbeciles Served Any Combat Or Military Time. And I Dont Consider Working On Your Putting Game While In The Reserves As Military Time.

serving in the navy when there was a draft although noble hardly excuses his cluster fuck of the presidency......i think he is a humanitarian and i worked/donated to habitat for humanity....and that is what he should stick to.....

I mean it is like Joe Pisarcik grading Eli Manning.......lacks credibility

Jimmy Carter to his credit had a very decorated naval career and didnt get handed everything to him like the guy in office now. and if your going to compare carter to pisarcik then I would compare bush jr. to billy joe tolliver.

well that is your right.....history on bush i think has not been fully written yet....time seems to take care of that.....I think he has been average at best......

anyways, my analogy is simply it is hard to take Mr. Carters opinion seriously on a position he did not do well in.......i guess i should say cam cameron.....

i respect his military career and i bet if he had a son he would have coddled him too.......George Sr. was a decorated navy avaitor who was shot down......many of that generation (athletes also) were cut from a different cloth.....today the talk is tough.......as long as it is someone elses kid.......(i know there are some politicians who served and their relatives so i apologize....but i think they are the exception)......

MM...you get no argument from me on his naval career....
