They locked the doors to the gym to beat the next white boy that came through......THen they beat the shit out of him till he was unconscious, and still kept going. I agree maybe somewhat of a lighter sentence, but this is fucking wrong. Blacks being bused in from as far as LA to support a gang? Jena 6 leader has been arrested like 4 times right? The nooses hung on the tree happened 3 months before they decided to beat an innocent person almost to death!!! Im sorry this is not alabama in the 60's or little rock when blacks stood for something genuine. This is the liberal media blowing things up for political gain. Even the local blacks in Jena were scared to speak out because of these crazy people! Where was Fat ass Sharpton, or Jesse when the Duke boys were done wrong? I know im rambling, but this shit has to STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

agreed,,,,,,that is why i said this was not a garden variety schoolyard fight.....Also there is no law on the books for hanging nooses......but their should be some discipline for that.....I can see how that would pain someone of color...especially the older folks who lived that nightmare.....

Every sentence according to the books is always harsh, but noone ever serves a sentence that long black or white. I know a dui offers a I think somewhere like a 5 yr possible sentence, but noone ever serves that. The kids that played that joke with the nooses didnt think of the ramifications of their actions. They should be punished, but a HATE CRIME is rediculous! I due agree that this shouldve been handled better by the school board,but the kid that was beat almost to death had nothing to do with it. And even if he called them a fuckin nigger, they still had no right to beat him the way they did! That is the problem here.... these kids parents arent standing up and saying what their kids did was wrong, instead they are making excuses for them based on race, and what kind of message does that teach them for further down the road when they are faced with bigger problems?

You want an example of what happens to white men who beat and kill a black youth in this country, Rocko? Just Google Emmett Till and read about what you find.....I'll give ya a little insight. They were acquitted and set free.

Some serious prejudice reaction in here and in the Mcnabb thread as well. It's sad that the media gets blamed for reporting facts. The media has come down hard on Vick. HARD. Vick's case has been reported on and scrutinized more than any other and in every type of media. What he did was pathetic and he should pay a stiff penalty, but don't try and tell me the media is covering it up or being soft on him because he is black. Why is it still being rammed down our our throats daily? If what you people are saying is true, that the media takes it easy on blacks or black athletes, this would have disappeared long ago. Fact is, it's not and is very prevalent today. Just because ESPN, who isn't the voice of all the media in the country, does one story to counter all that has been reported over the past few months, doesn't mean all the media are sympathetic to Vick!

In the Mcnabb case, the media also reported on many black QB's saying QB's in general are scrutinized more than any other player, not just the black ones. I've read several stories regarding white QB's being scrutinized just as much as any black. If the media would have a black agenda, they would have buried the Mcnabb story as well. Again, it's being rammed down our throats and he made the comments before the season even started! Why hasn't anyone brought that up? Quit trying to blame the 'liberal media' for everything and that they have a black agenda. That's just Rush Limbaugh vomit!

If anything, this thread and the Mcnabb thread prove to me that it's an us vs them or a black vs white, way more than what the media reports. That it's threads like this that call attention to racism in this country more so than the media. Anytime a public figure, black, white, red, yellow perpetrates a crime, the media is going to scrutinize it at an imporportionate higher level. This is due to our obsession with celebrities in this country. We put celebrities and athletes on such a high pedestal, that when they fall, it gets the majority of the front pages.

I'm sure I won't change many opinions in here and won't make many friends, but I feel better knowing that there is a free press in this country as given to us by the Constitution and that there is a watchdog for all the people in our country. One that educates us about domestic and global events as well. No one, including the president himself, is above scrutiny by the media.

The media is really not biased, if people really look at what's reported it's generally very fair and accurate. It just so happens that people of color or people less fortunate are treated unfairly in this country more often than not. The media as a watchdog is going to report it and try to rectify a it by educating people about what is going on. So of course more stories are going to be reported on people of that ilk. They have never backed down on reporting improprieties by liberals. See Bill Clinton.

The problem lies where people see or read only what they want to see or read. Like the story ESPN did on Vick. It was one story possibly for, out of a thousand that have been done against. I didn't even see it to be honest with you. I'm taking your word that it was in favor of Vick. Chances are, in that story, they also brought up many things he did wrong. Just my guess.
