    R. Kelly case to begin trial

    August 1, 2007
BY ERIC HERMAN Staff Reporter/[email protected]
The criminal case against R&B star R. Kelly — which has been pending for five years — is headed to trial at last.

At a court hearing today, Judge Vincent Gaughan said Kelly’s trial on child pornography charges would begin Sept. 17.

Gaughan met with Kelly, his lawyers and the lead prosecutor on the case for over an hour today. When they emerged from Gaughan’s chambers in the Criminal Courts Building, the judge announced the trial date and said the two sides have agreed on what questions potential jurors can be asked.
