  • La Inmigracion

    Arthor Unknown
This is for my Dad and my grandparents who came over
here so many years ago.... and found their way through
hard work and perseverance....so I can
really relate to this.....it is a little long...but
    take a minute to read.

ORANGE COUNTY ( California ) NEWSPAPER

This is a very good letter to the editor.
This woman made some good points. For some reason,
people have difficulty structuring their arguments
when arguing against supporting the currently proposed
immigration revisions. This lady made the
    argument pretty simple.

Newspapers simply won't publish letters to
the editor which they either deem politically
incorrect (read below) or which does not
agree with the philosophy they're pushing on the
public. This woman wrote a great letter to the editor
that should have been published; but, with your help
it will get published via cyberspace!

    New Immigrants From: "David LaBonte"

My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter
to the editor of the OC Register which, of course, was
not printed. So, I decided to "print" it myself by
sending it out on the Internet.
Pass it along if you feel so inclined. Dave LaBonte

    Dear Editor:
So many letter writers have based their arguments
    on how this
land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for
    one, suggests we should
tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people
    now in question
aren't being treated the same as those who passed
    through Ellis Island
    and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and
    point out to
people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not
    willing to accept
this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in
    1900 when there was a
rush from all areas of Europe to come to the
    United States, people had
to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New
    York and be
documented. Some would even get down on their
    hands and knees and kiss
the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws
    and support their
new country in good and bad times. They made
    learning English a
primary rule in their new American households and
    some even changed
their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to
    give their
children a new life and did everything in their
power to help their children assimilate into one culture.

Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no
welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the
skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade
for a future of prosperity. Most of their children
came of age when World War II brokeout.
My father fought along side men whose parents
had come straight over from Germany , Italy , France and
    Japan ..
None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought
about what country their parents had come from.
They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini
and the Emperor of Japan .. They were defending
the United States of America as one people.

When we liberated France,no one in those villages were looking
for the French-American or the German American
or the Irish American. The people of France saw
only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country.
Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up
another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were.
It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so
much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an
American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are in 2006 with a new kind of immigrant who wants
the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by
playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the
entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their
mother country. That's not what being an
American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis
Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil,
hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create
a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a
better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as
an example by those waving foreign country flags and for that
suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot
to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start
talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

I couldn't agree more. Now it's funny how some folks, one being the dispicable Bill Moyers, thinks calling people who come in illegally as "illiegal aliens" is being "racist" as opposed to using something more pc than "undocumented immigrant."

Decent read! But lets not stop there!
Here's a thought- Lets just rewrite the english language so everyone in the US has a say in what is spoken here!
Lets tear apart what has made this country whole for so many years - so we can include the immense varieties of social/cultural differences that otherwise would be impossible to blend together.
Lets create new identification of individuals based on who they were the son or daughter of - instead of afro-americans, mexicans, american indians.
Lets move toward breaking down each word that may cause offense to a cross-section of humanity found in the US.
Lets coordinate bureaus to protect the differences between races and utilize America's melting pot as a positive asset instead of what is wrong with the US!
To be honest--Its an old story- good ole boys want status quo- immigrants that came in later- whether legal or illegal want changes!
Do they deserve changes- well are all men created equal? They are fighting with the words of long ago that kept us together as a nation and now they want it changed. Illegal aliens, illegal immigrants, wetbacks, etc.--Names given to anyone entering the country illegally- not to be on the same footing with those who paid their dues in war-time and community related bonding to lay claim to the American citizen.

Crap like this .... just sick of hearing these kinds of stories

              --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pursuit ends in Ramona crash, arrests; Two trapped men rescued from trunk of burning car

RAMONA, Ca. -- A carload of suspected illegal immigrants crashed into a stopped sport utility vehicle Thursday morning during a California Highway Patrol pursuit into Ramona, authorities said.

They said four men in the black four-door sedan got out and ran, leaving two men trapped in the trunk as the car started to burn at Main Street, also known as Highway 67, and Ramona Street. Firefighters rescued the pair.

All six men were taken into custody, including the driver, and the woman driving the white Ford Expedition that was struck wasn't hurt, officials said later.

"We tried to stop it (car) before it got into town," said Sgt. Bert Strahm of the Ramona Sheriff's Station. "Our main concern was we didn't want them going any further into town, with all the (school) kids out and everything."

Officials said two spike strips were laid before the car barreled into the rural community, but the driver wouldn't stop despite at least three flattened tires.

The Highway Patrol is working on possible charges of fleeing, causing a crash that injured at least one and possibly two of the men in the trunk while being pursued, and recklessly evading officers, Sgt. Amado Macias said.

Officers chasing the car didn't know it was carrying possible illegal immigrants, Macias said.

Earlier in the morning, federal agents had spotted the car in Japatul in far East County and tried to stop it for suspected illegal immigrant smuggling, said Matthew Johnson, a Border Patrol spokesman and agent.

"The driver began driving recklessly at high rates of speed," Johnson said.

Agents were unable to keep up with the car, so a Customs Border Protection helicopter crew was called and began tracking the car, Johnson said.

When the car started north on Highway 67 in the Lakeside area, it went past a Highway Patrol officer at 85 mph, Macias said. Later, the car was seen roaring north toward Ramona at speeds of more than 100 mph with the Highway Patrol chasing it.

Straham said Highway Patrol officers put out the first spike strip as the car entered the Ramona area, and deputies put out another one about a block ahead of where the car slammed into the stopped vehicle.

"He was essentially driving on rims at that point," Strahm said.

After the crash, four of the men in the car scattered as the front end started smoking, the sergeant said. He said Deputies Steve Brewer and Martin Machado tried to pry the trunk open to free the trapped men.

Firefighters arrived, popped the trunk lid and put out the fire, Strahm said.
