Shooting From the Hip:
Did anyone see the Houston Texans - Kansas City Chiefs Game last Sunday Night ? I didn't but I happened to catch a pre - game shot where the ESPN Camera Crew zoomed in on Bob Mc Nair , the Owner of The Texans , sitting next to one of his Cronies in his private luxury box. It was so funny … both had arms crossed as tight as can be , with teeth clenched so hard their ears were popping out , along with most of the veins in their foreheads … and yeah , their faces were so gloomy and doomy as if they had just been sentenced to 30 years each by The Securities and Exchange Commission for Fraud , with ZERO chance for Parole.
You know what ? I'd be Pissed Off too if some hyped up QB, his Slick Little Agent, and the very Scouts whom I employ , all hoodwinked the crap out of me at once … to the tune of 70 million …. and still counting.
" Here , David …. Take my ten gallon hat and ostrich boots too . By the way , do I still have 10 fingers left ? I'd better check. "

I don't know how Bob McNair earned his fortune … Hell I don't even know if he's EVER EARNED ANYTHING ….. maybe he's just Lollygagging his way through life as some Trust - Fund - Tit - Head figuring that 60 - 70 million is one year's return on One Billion Dollars, invested ultra - conservatively.
With all respect due to the few Ladies we are blessed with right here in Bettor's Chat , David Carr looks like a 12 year old girl throwing the Shot - Put for the first time in gym class … his body english on the field is most effeminate … heck , most of the Female Collegiate Fast Pitch Softball Athletes play their position with more intensity and fire … and skill ….. amazing how Carr weaseled his way into 20 times more money than he's worth … without so much as a hint of decency or responsibility.
Was Ryan Leaf the biggest QB Bust in NFL History ? … Talent Wise ? … Probably … Money Wise ? … Not Even Close … he only finagled 20 million … a mere bag of shells compared to what Mc Nair has squandered away on some Myth.
If and when McNair sobers up he'll cut this guy loose … then for a good last laugh I can picture David Carr setting his sights on his next "mark" , Al Davis , the Once Proud but now Catatonic Owner of The Oakland Raiders, who for the past 20 years has shelled out A Fortune while asking for little or nothing in return… Carr and The Raiders would be a perfect fit .
I am not ancient . I have no problem whatsoever with the vast sums of money being doled out by owners in The Entertainment Industry. Hell, I earned my share before retiring. But I'll always be "old school " in that I believe that one should earn his keep whatever that keep should be ; and when I see someone merely going though the motions week after week only to collect a big fat check … well, it's a form of criminal behavior and it will always nauseate me .

Thursday is "Big Brunch Day" at noonish , followed by a refreshingly wonderful nap while some Dunce named Norv Turner babbles on and on for 30 minutes or so …
Fridays … an optional jog down the panoramic Pacific Coast Highway …
Saturdays Off …
Sundays ... a light scrimmage.
Then he wakes up in the morning. The dream is over.

I think it's time for The San Diego Chargers to go on one of their patented 2nd half point -spread runs right into the playoffs . Then, when everyone is good and hot over them , we will fade Shottenheimer for the limit in post season. How I miss the Golden Years when Shott ( K.C ) , Dennis Green ( Minnesota ) , and Jim Mora Sr. ( New Orleans ) all made the playoffs together !!! Fading these Three Stooges was literally a license to print money.

I told him to wear a brown neck tie .

Since you guys are knowing me more and more each week I feel it's about time I brought this up so I can get it overwith and then say no more … I know it will raise a few eyebrows but this is what I sincerely believe in my heart of hearts . ( Frankie B and I have had numerous conversations on the subject , all of which seem to end with a big laugh. )
Why I do not consider The NBA a sport :
Can I jab better than Roberto Duran or dance better than Muhammed Ali ?
NO
Can I stick handle better than Wayne Gretzky or shoot harder than Brett Hull ?
NO
Can I catch a football better than Jerry Rice or throw with more speed and accuracy than John Elway ?
NO
Can I field a ground ball in the hole better than Derek Jeter or hit a fastball farther than Barry Bonds ?
NO
Can I drive a Titleist farther than Tiger Woods or putt better than Annika Sorenstam ?
NO
Can I run faster and shoot better than Shaquille O'Neal ?
With My Eyes Closed
I'm better than him in 2 aspects of his very own game.
AND … I'm probably not the only one of us in Bettors Chat who can make that statement.
AND … O'Neal is The League's MVP ( or close to it ) each and every year. … which is a joke in and of itself .
With no other professional athlete in the world am I able to say that I'm am better in any category for his or her particular sport , and yet with O'Neal I am clearly superior in 2 distinct areas.
He is not even close to being considered an athlete , and since he is it's perennial MVP, then "Basketball " can never be considered a true sport .
