Huh? Was a field goal worth minus three in that game? Why would a field goal on the last play help a game go under?

You college example are all cases of unpaid athletes that are taken advantage of by the NCAA. All documented cases involved baskets. Not football.

Boxing has always been fixed. I also think it is fixed today. In boxing you only have to pay off 2 athletes.

The only possibility for NFL games to be fixed is by the refs. Even still I believe they are heavily scrutinized.
i did not call any names or single you out,but to think that there is not some amount of bullshit going on-just doesn't work for me,i do not want to get in a big arguement with you on this because i consider you one of my good friends on this site//as such you are welcome to your oponion-it just does not agree with mine on this subject!!

Good point. Also - what happened last night is way different than point shaving. Turning a win into a loss is far different than keeping a win not so big or turning a loss into a blowout.

          • Of course-- I was able to fix the game-- me with my 100$ bet -- spread that around the eagles-- make sure the refs are taken care of-- and leave a little for the Mrs back at home--

                • That play was a good call, somebody in this thread said, that could be one of the funniest things i have read all year anywhere.
Lets see we have rushed for close to 200 yards on them, so lets instead try the highest risk pass play there is in football, an out pattern on the sidelines, so if we mess up, theres a good chance they will intercept it.
Listen sometimes when your running good it doesnt matter how many men they put in the box, you will still get a first down.
How many games have you had in your life where your team is losing and the other team has got the ball and you say to yourself just stop the run 3 times and you will get the ball back? 8 OUT OF 10 TIMES the other team runs for the first down, even with all your players up at the line. And alot of times the team breaks off a huge run. So anybody that thinks that was a good call last night, really must be doing some bigtime drugs or havent watched that many games in their lifetime. Also just cause dallas drove down the field in 4 plays on their last drive, doesnt mean they would do it again.
Proper call was a run or a screen. Andy reid called the stupidiest play he could have called and really he should be fired for that one.
Also one last thing, why is it so hard for people to believe that the nfl games could never be rigged and that everything is on the upty up? Guys were talking about billions of dollars being able to be made, do you really believe the people that make this country go around, dont want some of that. I guess you all believe wallstreet is honest and the money men of this world aint fleecing us there. lmfaooooooo
One last thing nobody will ever know and be able to prove that mcnabb threw that ball to williams on purpose, so the deals keep going on.
Just remember its all about the dead presidents and isnt about teams winning a superbowl, thats secondary to the cash.
Why do you think some owners will never spend the money to become better and year in and year out they stink, its because they own an nfl team for the money they can make, plain and simple. So stop making it so unbelieveable that this kind of stuff could never happen in the nfl.
I do know one thing and that is we will never know if it does or doesnt happen. But my money is riding on the fact that it does. In fact it doesnt change the percentages of picking winners, you still got a 50-50 chance.
You think we got espn football games every night because of the fans wanting football games everyday, lol. Its all about the gambling industry.

                  • I just want to examine last nights chain of events to show you that game was not rigged.

The drive before, dallas drives down the field, quite easily, and bledsoe throws a beautiful td pass to a receiver that was wide open. Andy Reid saw this, realized oh shit one more td and they win this game.

On the next posession, I believe the first play was a run for a minimal gain. Reid doesnt want to give the ball back to the cowboys and see bledsoe pick apart the defense for a winning drive. A 2nd down pass is not unusual, plus it was a short pass just trying to get some yards.

Its easy to explain that pass, McNabb expected the receiver to do an out or come back to the ball. THe receiver was on a different page. It's easy for us to see how horrible of a pass that was because we sit on the couch and watch from an elevated camera angle. Now, McNabb doesn't see the safety, ROOKIE mistake and extremely STUPID (yes I am bitter), but if that safety wasn't there and the receiver ran an out, it would have looked like a good play and we aren't sitting here crying in our beer. The game is so much faster than we realize, plus the angle the quarterback has is so much harder to make quick decisions.

No way was that game last night fixed, McNabb folded under pressure and made one of the dumbest mistakes a qb can make in that situation. I don't necessarily blame the play calling, I blame the communication between the players and McNabb for making the last decision that cost the eagles a game they should have won.

                    • BigTicket, little league coaches wouldnt call a pass play to the sidelines up 6 with 3 minutes to go. If he wanted a pass play so bad, then throw it to the middle of the field.
Also no way do you run a timing play in that spot, if you run a pass play, you run one where you see the reciever before you throw it.
Bottomline is run, like you have been all night and if you dont get the first down make dallas go the length of the field, your making it sound like if dallas got the ball back on offense, they were for sure gonna get a touchdown, thats insane to think that.

                      • One point for people who think the NFL is fixed...there are 1696 players, 960 coaches, 112 refs involved with each weeks games. I do not believe they have all kept their mouths shut over the years...sorry. Something would have come out by now.You would be talking about the largest cover-up ever, the Bush administration hasn't been able to do it, the CIA couldn't do it, Enron couldn't do it - no way these guys pull it off. Add to that the huge amount of working press...someone would have slipped up by now!

cd329- valid point on the out rout, that was a stupid call. But I do believe as a coach in that situation you have to expect the worst possible scenario, which would be dallas driving the length of the field, therefore you call whatever play you feel will get you enough yards to get a first down or be in better shape for a 3rd down conversion.

You are clueless. The game is played by humans. Humans make mistakes. D-backs often blow coverages. Did you ever think Philly was expecting the run? On the previous play Barber rushed for 26 yards.

Based on your logic everygame should end in a 0-0 tie. Because you expect the players to play a perfect game on every play.

McNabb threw an INT. It's not the first time a QB threw an INT. It won't be the last. McNabb was focused on the receiver. He didn't see the d-back. It happens all the time.

That's always been my arguement. In my 35+ years as a NFL football fan there's never been the slightest hint of a game being fixed.
