Detroit Pistons player Kentavious Caldwell-Pope 24 years old was pulled over by the Auburn Hills police and asked to repeat the alphabet from N to C. Instead of repeating it Pope started to sing it out loud and went way past the letter N. Within minutes later Pope was arrested under the suspicion of being intoxicated. Pope's blood-alcohol level at the scene of the crime was 0.098. To drive legally in Michigan, one must be below 0.08.
The incident subjects Caldwell-Pope to the NBA’s substance abuse policy. With only six games remaining this season, any punishment would occur at the beginning of next season. Pope will be a restricted free agent this summer 2017. The league will conduct its own investigation and wait for the case to run its course.
Most recently, Pistons assistant coach Tim Hardaway was suspended three games over the summer for pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated.
