No. 1: Fenway Park
Team: Boston Red Sox
Fan Cost Index: $350.78
Perhaps the reigning World Series champions wanted their fans to feel like they were paying to see the champs. Fenway Park is the most expensive ballpark both in terms of average ticket ($52.32) and the FCI, which is a 7.3 percent increase over 2012. Beers at Fenway are the most expensive in MLB: 65 cents per ounce.
No. 2: Yankee Stadium
Team: New York Yankees
Fan Cost Index: $337.20
The Yankees FCI is flat compared with last year, though that's probably best when the average premium ticket is far and away the most expensive in MLB at $305.39. The only other team even close is the Los Angeles Dodgers' $254.19. Want to park? Be sure to bring $35.
No. 3: Wrigley Field
Team: Chicago Cubs
Fan Cost Index: $304.64
The friendly confines actually saw nearly a 1 percent drop in average ticket prices for this season, though it is still comfortably third-most expensive at $44.16. Rooftop tickets across Sheffield Avenue can run from around $90 to more than $200 for a weekend game against the rival St. Louis Cardinals.
No. 4: Citizens Bank Park
Team: Philadelphia Phillies
Fan Cost Index: $258.18
The Phillies are generally flat compared with last year in most cost aspects, with many likely arguing that that extends to the team itself. The $37.42 average ticket is softened by theme nights such as military discount dates ($8 off) and the, uh, Phillies Cornhole Classic ($20 tickets).
No. 5: AT&T Park
Team: San Francisco Giants
Fan Cost Index: $239.51
The Giants were baseball's first adopters of "dynamic pricing," so their 5.1 percent increase on average ticket prices to $31.63 is likely quite reflective of the market. Their price for a ticket for one bleacher seat and a dog for August Dog Days ($115) isn't dynamic, but it still probably reflects the San Francisco market.
No. 6: Busch Stadium
Team: St. Louis Cardinals
Fan Cost Index: $233.86
The Cardinals offer the second-most expensive soft drinks in baseball at an average $5.25. That wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to wash them down with the National League's most expensive beer at 56 cents per ounce. Average tickets rose on pace with league averages to $33.84.
No. 7: Citi Field
Team: New York Mets
Fan Cost Index: $229.68
The Mets haven't really been "good" for some time now, but the average ticket price of $25.30 is "good" for this list. However, their premium tickets ($83.78 average) represent a stunning 59.3 percent of seats. Free T-shirts on Fridays, though.
No. 8: Nationals Park
Team: Washington Nationals
Fan Cost Index: $227.96
Also dropping considerably in total cost from last year was Nationals Park, at 3.6 percent. Average premium tickets are high at $187.29, but when you can be regularly graced with the presence of indifferent members of Congress (toward the game, of course), is there really a price too high?
No. 9: Marlins Park
Team: Miami Marlins
Fan Cost Index: $221.02
Marlins Park saw the largest drop in FCI for the top 10 parks, down 3.9 percent from last season. Just two years since its opening, the park recorded the second-lowest attendance in Major League Baseball last season. The Marlins are offering seniors free tickets on Thursdays, which is basically the "early bird special."
No. 10: Comerica Park
Team: Detroit Tigers
Fan Cost Index: $219.88
The Tigers FCI increased more than any other MLB team for this season, at 12.5 percent over 2013, though perhaps fans should be grateful they aren't demanding satchels of gold bullion after the team's record-breaking $292 million contract to Miguel Cabrera. The premium ticket average of $72.91 remains more than $20 below the league average.
