  • Paul George suffers serious injury

    ESPN

LAS VEGAS -- Indiana Pacers star Paul George suffered an apparent severe lower right leg injury Friday night during the Team USA intrasquad scrimmage at UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center.

George's leg landed and then buckled at the base of the basket stanchion after he fouled James Harden on a drive to the basket just 27 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Nearby teammates immediately reacted, with Harden doubling over as George recoiled on the baseline.

Medics, U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski and members of George's family who were at the game rushed to his side.

His right leg was put in an air cast and he was taken to the Hospital for Special Surgery in Las Vegas after being treated for about 15 minutes on the court. His family members accompanied him there.

USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo wouldn't speculate on the severity of the injury afterward.

"We don't know," he said. "Everyone saw what we saw. That's for the medical team to see."

After he left in an ambulance, the rest of the game -- a showcase game between players in camp for the U.S. as it looks to trim its roster ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain that begins Aug. 30 -- was canceled.

The White team led George's Blue team 81-71 at the time.

Thats terrible man. People gave Lebron and Love flack for not playing. Almost not worth it. For the Olympics I understand but this was not really worth the risk.

Man I really feel for the guy. Reminds me of the Kevin Ware injury in ncaa tourney a couple years ago. He was never the same. I mean this guy was trying to play for his country for free and probably cost himself 50 or 60 million. How do u come back and play at the same level and intensity after this happens. Even if he heals 100% everytime he drives to the hoop he is going to think about how he lands. Really hate when someone gets hurt representing our Country.

Kevin Ware had some weed issues, he healed up fine, he just couldn't lay off the dope. That's why he left the Cards, he was healed and capable of being his old self.

Doctors are pretty amazing now, George can get back in a year to his old self!

Physically yes you are 100% but mentally it has to hurt him because he spends alot of time in the air. If he has to worry every time he jumps if his leg will hold him then he will never be the same.
