  • Very Strong Trend in Play for the AFC Title Game

Not generally a big trend player but this one definitely has me thinking. This trend applies to the New England Pats. Teams who score 40 or more points in the playoffs are 3-22-2 ATS in their next game since 1996. Since 2001 the record is 2-13-2 ATS. Tom Brady and New England is 0-3 ATS in their next game when scoring 40 or more points in the playoffs. In 2004 the Pats beat Pittsburgh 41-27 in the AFC title game. In the Super Bowl they were -7 against Philly. They won but didn't cover 24-21. In 2011 the Pats beat Denver 45-10 in the Divisional round. They were -7 versus the Ravens in the AFC title game and won but failed to cover 23-20. In 2012 they beat Houston 41-28 in the Divisional round. In the AFC title game they were -8 against the Ravens and lost the game out right 28-13. Since the Pats are getting points maybe things will be different since they were favored in the other games. Take it for what it's worth.
