    Carlos Beltran heading to Bronx

Free-agent outfielder Carlos Beltran has agreed to a three-year, $45 million deal with the New York Yankees, a baseball source confirmed to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick on Friday night.

Beltran, 36, hit .296 with 24 home runs and 84 RBIs in 145 games this past season for the St. Louis Cardinals.

So they get Ellsbury, Beltran and Kelly Johnson for $40 when they could have had Cano and Beltran for $39 million? Considering they now have 6 OF's on the roster, it still makes zero sense to me but oh well!

Well yea if you just disregard the last three years on the contract, they might as well sign everybody to ten years. Those years matter even though you're acting like they don't. In that fantasy world they should've sign Cano over Ellsbury and Johnson. When contracts expire you can use that money to sign more guys.

Those 3 years matter to most, not the Yankees and their $200+ million payroll each year. That money means NOTHING to them. Last year they could have ate that deal and still had $204 million left on what they spent. Saying it matters when it is N.Y. is nothing more than laughable!

Arod's deal will be long expired by years 8, 9 10 of a Cano deal and they eat his money right now without a problem while paying another 3B to play. No different than those last 3 years of Cano and they probably have a better chance of getting something more than Arod gives in those years too.

In the only non salary cap league in major sport, it is just a joke when it comes to one team worrying about money and that is the Yankees. They lap the league in payroll and that deal would not have changed that one bit.

It's kind of funny that they do basically the same deal (A little bigger) with Arod, but the home grown kid that has never done anything but show up and play hard every day, they walk away from him. Guy has been consistently great and you never hear a bad thing about him, and they walk away. Instead they drop 22M/Yr on a Home Grown Red Sox player without the same resime and a guy who has missed 274 games in the last 5 seasons. You give up what is probably the BEST 2B in baseball and a farm system kid for the what, 10th, 12th, 15th best OF? I'm sorry but their choices have done nothing but shock me in this last week. They truly have. Not what I expected from them.

And those 3 years you keep bringing up Jesse? I've heard a few people today say that if NY bumped it to 8 years and 200M, Cano would have taken it but NY wouldn't budge. If true, they look even worse IMO.

Wayne if money didnt mean anything than why last year after Youk Teix granderson Jeter all got hurt is Overbay,Wells,Adams,Nunez Ryan and Reynolds are big secret weapons they spent on or had already playing. They got Soriano who at least was suppose to help but the other guys if they did anything they got lucky because they are all cast offs or bench players and they only finished 7 games out of a playoff spot.BTW jab jab your the one that said Lackey is the worst pitcher in baseball and you wouldnt have won the series this year if it wasnt for him, lol.

Hey, You are right about Lackey gizmo. I have done a 180 on him. He is a big reason why though. He isn't the same ahole on the mound he was with Francona. He has been a very different guy and he has changed his whole perception of himself.

The idea of signing guys is to try and win a championship at least for some teams anyway and the Yanks won with A-Rod and he may be done now.The hope is to win one with the Beltran,McCann,Ellsbury signings and if they can win multiple championships great. The Idea behind signing a guy for 9-10 years like Cano would def help the Yanks but than you Definately need to win multiple championships If you sign guys for 3-5 years and win thats when it continues to be a competitive team because you can get rid of the dead weight sooner than later. Last few years Lackey was a bad signing but now he helped you guys win so the whole bad part doesnt count anymore in my opinion.I actually liked Betances pitching for the Yanks at the end of the year he was getting more confident and throwing strikes which he was having trouble with in the minors so I know they need another pitcher but I hope they dont go crazy and sign 2 more so they
can give him a chance this spring.

The reason they Didnt sign cano was because of the 10yr deal. These contracts all come back to Bite you in the ass and they know it. That's why they refuses to give in for 10yrs. Cano was not a New Yorker, he was going to the highest bidder and his own teammates said the same As far as Yankees and other signings, they are trying hard to stay under the luxury cap. If doing so, I think they save themselves $100mm. So, yes, they have money. But they are trying to not get taxed of $100mm and they don't want to lock players up for 8-10 yrs I'm not a Yankees fan, but I agree with there decisions and I think they got thee awesome signings this off season so far
