If you saw this video without knowing the story behind it, you might suspect this Honda Insight's driver was killed instantly when it rolled over at 200 mph during a recent land speed run in California. Amazingly, he survived and has since been released from the hospital.P
Brian Gillespie was attempting a land speed record run in the heavily modified Hasport Hondata Insight on Nov. 10 at El Mirage Dry Lake, California. As you can see in the video, about 20 seconds into the run his car starts sliding before it rolls and tumbles violently across the desert at 200 mph. P
As Road & Track reports, Gillespie was airlifted from the crash to an area hospital, but he only suffered a few cuts and bruises and a collapsed lung. The Southern California Timing Association says he was even released from the hospital a few days back and that his recovery is going well.P
It's a testament to how incredible modern racing safety equipment really is. Best of luck on your recovery, Brian — and a big congratulations on the 200.9 mph record you set on the Saturday before the crash.
