DETROIT -
A gas station clerk in Detroit was taken into custody early Friday morning after allegedly shooting two people with an AK-47.
Sources told Local 4 the victims were shot by the 20-year-old clerk at a BP station at Ewald and Davison just after 4 a.m. and drove themselves to Sinai Grace Hospital. They are in temporary serious condition.
Sources said the victims, who are 25 and 26 years old, weren't armed but had been causing trouble at the station and may have a history of trouble at the same station before.
The clerk allegedly hid the gun in a bathroom before police arrived, sources said. But officers found it in a lightbulb box and also allegedly found the clerk trying to disable the station's security cameras.
Jack Johnson said he delivers papers every morning to the station and knows the people who were there. He said they're good people and he was shocked to see the ransacked station and trails of blood.
"They're good guys. I'm pretty sure it was self-defense. Like I said, when things occur inside, you got to treat it like your home," Johnson said.
The gas station's manager told Local 4 there's been trouble in the past with crooks trying to rob them.
Sources said the clerk is not cooperating with investigators.
