The Cabrera-Trout MVP race will be remembered for a long time. (Getty Images)

Miguel Cabrera is the right choice. The rest is just sound and fury.

The award is not Player of the Year. It is not Most Awesome Overall Skills. And it most certainly is not a Math Bowl.

It is the Most Valuable Player award, and the tehrm Valuable is where the water gets muddy and the math gets murky.

Mike Trout is a sensational player, the Second Coming of Mickey Mantle. If he is graced with good health and good fortune, he is going to win multiple MVP awards by the time hes finished.

But his time is not now. Not for this years MVP award.

All these people arguing that it should have been trout need their fuckin head examined. Keith law may be the biggest moron I have ever seen in the media. Cabrera won by a wide margin and he should have!

Happy for Cabrera, he deserves at least one and he had a great year. I wish they would just call the award player of the year instead of MVP. MVP leaves too much to debate. Is Cabrera more valuable because he got Detroit to the playoffs in a weak division while Trout "led" the Angels to a near equal record in a tougher division? You could also make the argument that even though Detroit got to the playoffs they didn't win the World Series, so ultimately what is the difference between Detroit's season and LA's? You could say that Mike Trout played better defense (which he did) or that Cabrera put up his #'s with 60 more AB's than Trout. It's impossible to quantify how valuable all of these things are. With that said, I still think Cabrera should have won it. I think these guys are dead even when weighing out the big stats such as HR RBI R Steals. After that, I would say that you have to favor Trout because of his defense (which a lot of people tend to dismiss). The reason I give the edge to Cabrera, though, is because he struck out 40 less times than Trout and even though Trout had tons of more steals than Cabrera, the runs scored by Cabrera and Trout are pretty close
