  • Blue Jays get Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buerhle from Marlins in megadeal

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Blue Jays have acquired Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buerhle, Emilio Bonifacio and John Buck from the Marlins in exchange for Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez, Jake Marisnick and Justin Nicolino.
Wow. Rosenthal says that there could be even more players involved in the deal, as well. It's obviously a massive deal for a variety of reasons. The Blue Jays are adding a ton of talent and also a ton of payroll, though it's not clear how much, if any, money is changing hands. Meanwhile, the Marlins are having yet another firesale, this time just a year after finally getting their new stadium.

Can anyone explain why the Marlins are doing this? Might be unloading a lot of money but I don't see the upside to this...just spent all of this money on getting an "all-star" team together and after one year they are doing away with several starters including their ace and one of the best SS's in the league

With the new stadium it doesn't make much sense. They'll probably make money with such a low team payroll, I think $20 mill, plus another $20 mill in luxury tax. A's have been doing something similar for years, but the new stadium is just a waste now.

The RedSox will probably finish last in that division next year.

Richie: [after Gus hits a homerun] Wow and he did it without steroids.
            Clark: What's steroids?
Richie: Something that makes your pee-pee smaller.
Clark: There must be steroids in macaroni!

And they got rid of Anibal Sanchez this year..this team is starting to remind me of my Houston Astros. "If he's good, trade him.........immediately!"

This trade makes sense to me for the Marlins. The team isn't going anywhere. Atl wash will be the top 2 teams in nl east going forward. If Toronto is willing to take on these players and salary why not?

I agree from a business stand point it makes a lot of sense. They can always just sign more free agents, and young players have huge value since you lock them in for years for cheap
