Crawford was the big one. Sounds like the Dodgers wanted AGon and Beckett but the only way Boston would do it is if they took the Crawford contract too, and they finally agreed.

Thats true Wayne. They did get off the hook for a lot of $, but its baseball with no salary cap. Dodgers pretty much signed 3 big time players.

When was the last time Beckett and Crawford were big time players. Just a simple answer please. They paid a qtr billion $ for Adrian Gonzalez because they wanted him that badly.

I understand that. I just do not believe Crawford is done and Beckett could be good in NL, we will have to see.

I think they can't go anywhere but up.

Beckett is (24-24) L3 years with an era over 5 in 2 of those 3 seasons.

Crawford only played in 161 games in 2 seasons in Boston because of injuries and he had Tommy John surgery the day the trade went down, meaning he is out another 7-9 months. He will be 32 next year and his biggest asset (His wheels) are not what they once were. And over his career, he averaged 10 HR's & 60 RBI's per season with a .292 average. Boston was looking for numbers a little better than that and he couldn't even live up to those .... and all that is worth 21+ million per year?

Great trade for the RedSox in my opinion, but it'll work out for the Dodgers, in that they got Adrian Gonzales to replace James Loney and that old be enoug to put them over the top. Beckett will be ok for two more years, and Crawford will still be good, neither will be great. The back end might hurt them a little, but they wanted to compete now, the free agent pool sucks next year. Im really interested to see if the RedSox give Sands a chance next year at 1b once loney is gone.

GREAT clubhouse guy (Which they need) and he is a switch hitter with power.

The FA pool SUCKS. I think they will look to trade.

Everybody is giddy as if they just won the ws or something. It is crazy how happy this has made people. Nobody can believe the Dodgers took on all 3 contracts and were still willing to give 2 top pitching prospects.

Listening to the radio all day, it sounds like most of MLB Execs. thought the Red Sox were the big winners in this and they can't believe the Dodgers accepted all 3 contracts.
I remember how giddy Red Sox fans were when they signed Crawford even though it was one of the worst deals I've ever seen...funny how quickly things and people's tune change.

Thats the guy I want too provided that he doesn't demand 15 million a year or something along those line.

You are right jimmy. We were because we thought we were getting the guy who hit 300 with 19 hrs and about 40 steals the year before. He showed he simply couldn't stay healthy or handle the big market and after 2 years of a horrible experience, opinions change. Plain & simple.

Crawford has lost a step, his swing isn't the same, he strikesout too much, he will never be the same. He might be ok, but not worth that contract, they got lucky to be able to unload that. I think the RedSox will rebuild next year. With Lester Buchholtz, De La Rosa and Barnes as their top 4 starters. They can sign a huge pitcher when the time is right to anchor the staff. Pedoria, Ellsbury, Bradley, Bogarts, Middlebrooks, Salty, that's their core. Ross is servicable. They can add one big bat as well, when the opportunity presents itself. They basically have $60 million to spend. Bard needs to be the closer, Baily the set up guy. Valentine was a terrible signing, they need a players coach.

BW that pretty much says it all the only exception is I don't think they are anywhere close to being sold on Salty. The power is there the rest especially the strikeouts is not. And you are right Valentine has to go great baseball mind terrible people person.

I agree with most bw but doubront will be 1 of the starters and so will lackey unless they can trade him. They really like doubront so he will be there for sure imo. As far as bard goes, I'm not buying that at all. He is still an absolute MESS at AAA and I'm not sure if he will ever be the same or on this team again in the future. I don't see de la rosa and barnes in that rotation in 2012. Maybe one, maybe but not both.
