What happens if Ellsbury does not take the offer because he sees the team in a transitional phase.I think this trade messes up the lure Boston had on free agents.

Not only do I totally agree with you as well as your previous post, but also feel that the Sox should NOT sign Ellsbury so quickly.
With his proneness to injuries and his so-so performance so far this season, I am not sure sure that what we got from him ws nothing more than an aberration.
If I was the GM with all of the extra money saved, I would wait at least until/if some time until the middle of next season and possibly for the entire season for him to show that 2011 was not a fluke and take their chances.
Throwing a big contract at him right away would be inconsistent with and a contradiction of what they just did by unloading the guys they just did and why they did it.

Everybody up here is saying this may be the best trade in Boston sports history.

Everybody is giddy as if they just won the ws or something. It is crazy how happy this has made people. Nobody can believe the Dodgers took on all 3 contracts and were still willing to give 2 top pitching prospects.

Listening to the radio all day, it sounds like most of MLB Execs. thought the Red Sox were the big winners in this and they can't believe the Dodgers accepted all 3 contracts.
