  • BOS/LAD talking A-Gone, Beckett, Crawford

Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers have discussed Allen Webster, Zach Lee, Rubby De La Rosa and Jerry Sands in trade talks with the Red Sox.
The Dodgers and Red Sox are reportedly close to a deal that would send Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto to Los Angeles. The Red Sox wouldn't get all four of the names mentioned above, but one or more of them could go in a trade package. Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox would send some cash to the Dodgers to help facilitate a deal.

Makes a lot of sense for the RedSox, $60 million off the books. Also makes sense for the Dodgers if they think Beckett is still ok and plan on letting Victorino go. They have lots of money with the new ownership

If they do this, the 1st thing they will try to do is sign Ellsbury with the Crawford money. They will probably try to resign Ross too and use the rest in the offseason on Pitching and maybe 1B

Wayne do you see this as being a good thing for the Sox? I think Beckett is done as a top of the tier pitcher stuff just isn't what it used to be and his attitude has stunk all year as has the team but Gonzalez is still an elite hitter and Crawford the little he played showed he still could play if he got healthy. We both know there is something really wrong with this team in the clubhouse but don't you see this as a move that will make them a bottom of the road team for the near future?

The only one i care even a little about is Gonzalez. He has been somewhat of a disappointment though. He blasted 40 HR's with ease in that airport in SD and everyone thought he would hit 40+ every year in Fenway by the end of August. It just hasn't happened and i think for the money, his numbers have been a let down. As far as Crawford goes, get rid of him. You don't pay a fielder 20+ million per year unless he hits 35+ HR's a year and bats .300 He will never live up to that contract and again, he is probably out until at least May to start next season. They also had zero chance of signing Ellsbury with Crawford there. I'm giving Jacoby a free pass this year with his injury and all that has happened. They are building around Pedroia, Ellsbury and Middlebrooks IMO and Lester, Buchholz and Doubront for pitching.

If they can find a frontline starter and add a bat with pop, I think they can be right there again.

Adrian Gonzalez has officially been scratched from Friday's lineup.
With James Loney getting scratched from the Dodgers lineup just moments earlier, it's very clear that something major is about to go down. It's looking like there's a very strong possibility that Gonzalez has played his last game as a member of the Boston Red Sox. Stay tuned.

As Sox diehard, I wish I could disagree with you but I don't.
I don't think any deal should have been hastily put together which includes AG until at least the season is over to explore other possibilities;the fact that even without the power which was expected of him he has the highest risp % in baseball, is reason enough to keep him.
When you couple that with my overall belief that Cherington is imo mediocrea at best and has already made a number of awful moves, the most notable being Josh Reddick, the fact that good potential FA's may not want to play in the circus like and confused/chaotic state the Sox now find themselves in, I think it may be quite a while before the Sox are once again a legitimate contender.
Show me the playoffs and not just the money and I will change my opinion.

I.agree the josh Reddick move will hurt the Sox for years to come. Also the type of $$$$ for an elite 1B Gonzalez was a bargain compaired to Pujols and Prince Fielder.I think Crawford will regain what he had in Tampa and will have an all-star type season this coming season.

What happens if Ellsbury does not take the offer because he sees the team in a transitional phase.I think this trade messes up the lure Boston had on free agents.
