Saw an interesting stat that may mean bad new for both New England and Green Bay being that each is a number 1 seed.
In 7 of the past 11 seasons 1 of the number 1 seeds doesn't make the Super Bowl and the other number 1 makes the Super Bowl but loses the game.
In 2000 the # 1 Titans lost in the Divisional round and the # 1 Giants lost in the SB to Baltimore
In 2001 the # 1 Steelers lost in the AFC title game and the # 1 Rams lost the SB to the Pats.
In 2002 the # 1 Eagles lost in the NFC title game and the # 1 Raiders lost to Tampa in the SB
In 2004 the # 1 Steelers lost in the AFC title game and the # 1 Eagles lost the SB to the Pats
In 2005 the # 1 Colts lost in the Divisional round and the # 1 Seahawks lost to Pitt in the SB
In 2006 the # 1 Chargers lost in the Divisional round and the # 1 Bears lost to the Colts in the SB.
In 2007 the # 1 Cowboys lost in the Divisional round while the # 1 Pats lost to the Giants in the SB.
The past 3 years (2008-2010) has seen four # 1 seeds lose their playoff opener, the Giants and Titans in 2008, and the Pats and Falcons in 2010. In 2009 both number 1 seeds, Indy and New Orleans made it to the SB. That was the first time that happened since 1993.
Just something to think about.
