  • Playing or Not Playing with Broken Ribs

Wanted to start a little discussion here and see what your guys thoughts were.

Does this make Tony Romo a better or tougher quarterback than Michael Vick as to where Romo never missed a start with his rib injury and now Vick is missing his 3rd straight game?

    In short, no.

Ellsbury missed the last 5 months of last season with a rib injury for the Red Sox, in a much less contact sport. There are no 2 injuries that are the same. It may be the same exact injury but everybody and their body are different in their own way and 2 different bodies can handle the same exact injury very differently. Very rarely do i question injuries (except JD Drew).

I used to think turf toe? What?? Suck it up and get out there, it's a toe!!!!

Well, i got turf toe and my eyes watered up with every gentle step on it. PAINFUL!!!

Yea no one should be playing with broken ribs, it's extremely dangerous. Punctured lungs are no joke.

Besides, You couldn't understand why everybody thought he would miss games before the fantasy draft and this is now the 8th year of 9 that he has missed games due to injury. It is just how he rolls!

Vicks been taken a beating as to were romo really doesn't get hit as much so Vicks injury might more serious then rooms like Wayne said, I still think romo is a big pussy even if he is playing...

I shattered my thumb into many pieces in a car wreck this past summer and I can tell you that is a brutal injury. If Cutler has pins in it, no chance he sees the field again this year. That plus the amount of PT and you're looking at a minimum of a 4 month recovery before you'd even be able to grip a football let alone take the repeated pounding of a snap from center. Hell he'll need help with buttons and jars for months. I'm a quick healer and it took me 4 months and 2 surgeries plus therapy. Ben's clearly isn't as bad but it definitely must absolutely be killing him to take snaps. That's tougher than the grip. I'm guessing Cutler's isn't as bad as mine, I'm never going to have the same range of motion again.

I have played football with both and they both suck.

Ribs - every breath hurts and somtime it feels like the lungs are being punctured by the ribs as you move.

Thumb - had this twice! As a D-Lineman in college you are useless without your fingers/hands. Almost every play felt like I was going to pass out.

That being said, all comments are right on here. It all depends, each injury is different!!!

In fact with the first thumb injury they took xrays, doctor then asked me to take ann xray of my other hand, I was like why?? He said humor him. I did. When he came back he said oout of my 10 fingers I had previously broken 7 of them and 4 of them twice. He said something about telling by the healing and calcium build up or something (20+ years ago dont really remember), but truly I only knew about the current and one other broken figer at the time. So those must have not been that bad in the scheme of things...
