RIP Kurt Budke and Miranda Serna

Wow, can't believe another plane crash tragedy has struck at Oklahoma State.

Women's basketball coach Kurt Budke and a young female assistant Miranda Serna were killed after the small plane they were flying in on a recruiting trip crashed.

This is a horrible, horrible thing which occurred.
I'm sure this probably had nothing to do with the crash and I know nothing about flying, but I noticed that the pilot was 82.
Can someone who knows something about flying tell me whether in general there is the same risk of an 82 year old experienced driver driving his car as there is with an 82 year old experienced pilot flying a plane?
I ask this question in all sincerity and simply because I don't have a clue to the answer.
