  • Kyle Busch banned from Cup, N'wide at TMS

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Kyle Busch has been suspended from racing in Saturday's Nationwide Series event and Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway.

NASCAR president Mike Helton announced the penalty Saturday morning at the TMS media center. The action was taken after Busch deliberately wrecked Ron Hornaday Jr. under caution during the Camping World Truck Series event Friday night at TMS, turning Hornaday's truck head-on into the wall and causing a violent collision.

Busch was parked for the remainder of the trucks race.

"After a good deal conversation and discussion, NASCAR decided to maintain the parked position for the balance of the weekend," Helton said. "Kyle will not be participating today and tomorrow in Texas."

Michael McDowell will drive the No. 18 Toyota Cup car for Sunday's race. Denny Hamlin, Busch's teammate at Joe Gibbs Racing, will drive the No. 18 Nationwide car Saturday.

Busch was informed of NASCAR's decision in a meeting at the NASCAR hauler in the TMS garage 20 minutes before Helton spoke to the media. Team owner Joe Gibbs and J.D. Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing, also attended the media. Busch left the hauler out a side door and did not speak to the media.

The incident Friday night came early in the event, when Hornaday and Busch were racing for position. Hornaday was in the middle of a three-wide situation on the track when he bumped into Busch's truck on the outside.

Hornaday's truck got loose and bumped Busch again, forcing Busch's truck to scrape the outside wall. The caution flag came out, but Busch sped up to push his truck on the rear bumper of Hornaday's truck.

He continued to push Hornaday under caution at a high rate of speed before turning Hornaday's truck into the wall. Busch's truck also slammed into the wall.

"The fact that we took this step speaks of the severity of the topic," Helton said. "We understand the ripple effect to this type of move. But we take our responsibility very serious about maintaining control of the event."

I can't believe Nascar did this. I mean it was deserved after what he did in the truck race and all but i never thought Nascar would take this hard a stance with a guy in the chase!

kb, This kinda sucks for the pools. Everybody and their mother is going to use McDowell. It sucks cuz guys i'm trying to catch now have a 4 leaf clover up their ass by getting to use this guy in a good car and with a top team.

Now, it can work in my favor if everyone uses him and i don't ... and he crashes or finishes badly.

Do you know if he has to go to the back of the field with the driver change? I'm assuming yes but i can't find it anywhere. I know for a driver to get his starting position and points he has to start the race and go at least a lap before making a driving change but this is a little different where points don't mean as much with only owner points counting. Does he have to start at the back? If so, that makes it even more interesting.

So your outraged that a chase driver gets suspended for taking out another driver whi is going after his own championship? I just don't understand why anyone wouldnt think it's fair. He fucked Hornaday out of a shot to win the title and nascar fucked him. I think it was handled the right way

Nascar road rage, LOL, they need to put them two boys in a cage match to settle it. Put it on pay per view, would make lots of $$$$$$$.

How about arresting him for assault with a motor vehicle ??

If they can do it with a baseball player using a bat, they should do it with him

I'm pretty sure he has to start at the back cause Kyle qualified the car yesterday. I called the guy who took Kyle in my 11 person pool and told him he could either keep the 18 or pick someone else who hasnt been taken. I just figured it was fair to do. It makes pools interesting thats for sure

This will have a huge bearing on the N21 & Survivor pools that we have here. If somebody has him and they don't trade him out in 21, it is a 50 for that group. I think quite a few have him and it also forces you to use that with your one move when you may have wanted to do something else. Survivor, it will have a huge impact. If he finishes well, everybody with just scrubs will celebrate. If you take him and he sucks, many take the fall and pay a price!
