  • What Do You Folks Think of David Stern?

Since KB started a thread about Lou Holtz, who irritates him, I decided to start a thread about what everyone thinks about David Stern in the way he is handling the current crisis and overall and historically as the Commissioner of the NBA.
For now all I will say is that I personally can't stand him.
    I will elaborate later.

I think he's terrible. Probably a toss up between him and Goodell but for him to have allowed a lockout to last this long with a sport only about 3-4 fan bases even care about is ridiculous. His arrogance is ridiculous. The NHL almost entirely collapsed after their lockout but came back strong thanks to some rules changes that have improved play (and the infusion of Ovie and Crosby too). I seriously doubt the NBA will do anything to make the game better or more fan friendly. The league is also completely skewed toward the big market teams to win every year. Does anyone in Utah or Milwaukee actually think their teams will actually win an NBA title? What a dull league when you can pretty much narrow down the champs to 3-4 teams per season.

Seems like whoever is in power in anything politics, sports, or whatever they always get a bad rap. You can't please everyone and if it wasn't Stern the next guy probably wouldn't be liked either. Me Imo do t care to much he never did anything to me!

Here is the latest reason I can't stand Stern:
NBA lockout -- Miami Heat owner Micky Arison fined $500,000 for Twitter comments on labor talks, sources say - ESPN

To me he is just a power happy/attention seeking jerk who loves to flexing his muscles and strut his stuff if someone speaks his mind.
The last I heard there was free speech in this country.
To go further and to look at things respectively, over the years Stern has been too concerned with drawing attention to himself and trying to obtain the status of tyrant by putting all of his attention to such things as to how many players and/or owners he can suspend and how much he can fine them for fisticuffs, daring to speak out of turn, establishing dress codes which suit him but not necessarily the teams who are the ones who employ the players and a host of other shit.
In the present situatuation, he seems more concerned with canceling games and weeks of the season than in helping to solve the messy situation between players and owners.
Conversely, spending enough time with investigating and preventing such things corrupt referees and players who are trying to influence the ats outcome of a game such as Tim Donagy has not been a priority-how come?
Imo and to summarize, Stern is just one self-serving/arrogant jerk who who would be better suited to babysitting than being the Commissioner of the NBA.

Every time I see the face of that obnoxious arrogant prick on my tv, I want to smash the set.
I don't care if they there is a NBA season or not, but somehow I think if the league had had a commisisoner with a normal ego, this thing would have been settled a long time ago.

The chances are whether there is an NBA Season or not, a lot of NBA fans up until now will join you because of this lockout.

Stern may be an ignorant ass but the owners have all the power. I wouldn't be backing down either. They met them at the 50/50 point and the players still found other things they want. All of these millionaire players blow their money and need the league more than the rich billionaire owners need them. They can live forever without the extra income while these players have blown all theirs. They will cave at some point.

The union leaders are the idiots. They are getting paid and don't care how long the lockout is. Just like in real life, the union thinks about themselves and in the end everybody gets screwed. They will hold out for every dollar they can get, meanwhile all the players are losing paychecks. I am surprised there are not more that come out and say they just want to end this.

Believe me I don't side with or feel sorry for the players either.
I simply can't stand Stern ,and the issue and the reasons go way beyond this labor dispute.
