do they? i dont follow this stuff. i did hear a interview a few minutes ago stating that not this many cars are normally on the track for these races....is this true?

Yes, they have ran at Texas every year since it opened in 97'. This year I believe they combined two series so they have more cars, but they've ran at Texas and Kansas I know which are both 1.5 milers. Indy is a more demanding track than any 1.5 mile track imo. You can't blame the officials imo. Just unfortunately one of those racing deals. Hate to see this happen to anyone...

They race at mile and a halfs all the time. This is not the officials fault at all.

But i dont think they ran this many cars at those tracks,Even Dan Wheldon was not supposed to race yesterday but the owner of INDYCAR threw out that $5 million Challenge that if any non series driver won the race he would get the $$$$$$.Indy has a lot of racing room compared to Vegas though.I have seen 3 wide racing at Indy alot and its pretty common but even on that 5 lap tribute when they were running 3 wide did not look like alot of room to me,In nascar when everyone is running in the draft you always hear about "the big one " because drivers cant see and they are going so fast no way can they slow down and miss the wreck.

To me that is exactly what caused this wreck,Some drivers were worried about this track before the race,
