As much as I am not crying crocodile tears about seeing Theo leave, in my mind he is a coward and his name shuld be changed from Wonder Boy to Coward Boy.
It is easy to walk away from a mess which one helped to create.
It is another to have the balls to stick around for at least the duration of your contract to try to fix it.
The old saying that "When the going gets tough, the tough get going" sure doesn't apply to Theo, except the word "going" meaning he has decided to pick up his marbles and go elsewhere.
A lot of folks are saying "Good luck Theo, etc."
I say "Good Luck, Theo-I hope you and the Cubs finish dead LAST until you are fired instead of just resigning on your own because you don't have the guts to try to fix/address the problems as you just did in Boston!"

                  Let it go man!!!

He brought us 2 WS Titles in his 8 years here and even though i agree it's time for him to go, I'll always appreciate him for that!!!

P.S. There are many teams out there that would love to have our "Mess" that they put on the field each night. Stop being such a spoiled old duffer!

I dont think its a surprise that he signed with the schlubs. If I'm not mistaken, there were rumors all of last winter about him going to them.

If they want a winner, better scrap the whole team and start with little leaguers and groom them for 2025

Lets just say that the FO is going to have to do a ton of work on many levels to get the team to challenge for a WS in the near future.
I appreciate what Theo did during his stay here, but don't like the way he walked away from it.
I would have no problem with his leaving if the collapse hadn't happened, Sox made the playoffs and even if they went out in the first round.
My own opinion is that knew what was going in the clubhouse for a long time and could live with it as long as things were relatively good.
When things reached the boiling point, he chose to walk away from it and go elsewhere.
I respect your opinion and anyone else who sees it differently, but I can't help how I feel about it in view of the circumstances.
Personally if I had any say in all this, I would have simply released John Lackey IMMEDIATELY afrer the last pitch of the last game of the season-I think he both in tangible and intangible ways was a big reason for a lot of the fate of the Sox this season-in short beside being a shit pitcher in every sense of the word, he brings bad karma and an entire negative atmosphere to anything related to the Sox success or in this case lack of thereof.

The collapse wasn't Theo's fault savage. It was the fuckin millionaire cry babies that took the field each night. It's about time you start holding the right people accountable and you need to look directly at the players who didn't get it done.

Come on. There were 25 guys on that team who played bad down the stretch. To single 1 guy out even if he is a douche is just plain idiotic. He is a #3 starter. The top 2 starters were getting lit up also along the September meltdown.

I've seen a comment about them eating & drinking during the game. If thats true, then isnt it the JOB of the MANAGER to put a stop to it ?? I would assume since he does MANAGE the team, the control of the clubhouse is his. Correct ??

Can you recall all the games this year that Theo blew leads in the last half of the 9th ??

                              I didnt think so.

Believe me Wayne when I read the story today about Beckett, Lester(that shocked me) and Lackey drinking beer, eating chicken, playing video games and most importantly, not giving a flying fuck about the game, I was shocked, pissed and disappointed at THEM!
However, still isn't up to the GM to try to correct this situation or at least along with Francona done something so that it didn't snowball as it did during September?
Yeah sure it can be argued that these guys are grown men and expected to have a mature attitude(like Pedroia) towards their jobs and teammates.
However, as we all know, life is not perfect and someone had to give these guys a kick in the butt.
By my way of thinking and to play Devil's Advocate, if Theo did a great job and took such pride in helping the Sox achieve the success they did under his watch, then he should have equal pride for at least the duration of his contract to lead the team out of the collapse which occurred in September and help them to get back on track.
