Seeking Teams for High Stakes FFL ($1,000)

Guys. I've been playing at phenomsff.com for a number of years now and their leagues run like a charm..no short or late payouts, great site management, etc, etc. The site's owner has agreed to add a $1,000 league this year, but is concerned that it might not fill given the rather high buy in. This is an auction league, bonus point scoring system, is head to head, but with two points avaiable each week. One for the HTH and a second for the six teams scoring the highest totals each week. Played in identical format last year and was as much fun as any league I've ever played in.

If you are interested, would really like to see this $1,000 league make..if not, we can do a $500 buy in. Been involved in FF since 1985 and phenoms runs the best op I've come across. Big country its where everyone gets a total let's say $100 and then u go through each player and everyone bids and whoever bids the highest gets that player.I hate those and just word of advice if u do join do a lot of mock auction drafts on yahoo to practice.It's very hard to get the hang of.If u spend to much on 1 player u get screwed at the end.

I remember 1 year I did an auction draft and towards the end all these good players were getting picked for under $5 when I went $30 on petting Manning.I had $4 left on my team and once people w3my over the $5 range I. Was out worst I have ever finished in fantasy

Good advice for an auction league...find/generate a cheat sheet for values for each player. Then be disciplined and stick with it. The other thing is that you HAVE to keep track of everyone else's BR and slots that they have yet to fill. You can often bid up the price on a player that you may not want because an opponent shows interest and need for that player. Auctions are tough but worth it if you are prepared. Also...NEVER EVER put up a player that you are interested in picking up at that given point in the draft. If you think it's a good chance that your opponents value a player quite a bit higher than you do then put that player up and watch a bidding war start make sure you put up a few shadow bids while the bidding is lower than your value for the player so that the other players don't think you are only trying to get overvalued players off the board. Lastly...Listen to your opponents any time they talk football before or during your draft. You will hear what they value in players and you will be able to deduce which players they are likely to overvalue.

Great comments all. I agree with most of the advice given here. A word of caution though as I don't want to mislead anybody. Have played in hundreds of leagues...both draft and auction. I far more enjoy the auction leagues, but if you aren't really confident in your PLayer Personnel office, the auction is MUCH more challenging. Auction leagues, especially those where the buy ins are higher, is much more competetive. Few, if any, of your opponents will be novices. The most fun part is the actual auction. Where a draft format might take and hour or so to complete, the auctions usually will last twice that long. There are a number of auction specific cheat sheets available that will indicate the "normal" auction values of all the players. And, YES, there will be DEFINITE later rounds steals with some overbidding for the "marquee names". To be sure, the league I'm talking about will be "tough", but it really is tremendous fun. Need to do a lot more prep work before the auction, but it's like sex (only with your clothes on) to a fantasy nut like myself.
