Over $100 million. Five years added to end of contract. Committed to Milwaukee thru 2020.

    Huge move----and gamble----for a small market team.

He's on the way to a Hall of Fame career. If he stays healthy, I think he is worth it.

You're talking a classic .310 hitting, 35 HR a year guy. With speed besides.

The big risk for Miw is injury. If he gets hurt, they have hamstrung their franchise financially for a decade

The guy is 27 years old. Yes he may be elite or on his way but I guess my point is no one except me is worth that type of money. In all seriousness though I don't think this helps a small market team and fielder already makes 15 million a year. I think this type of money will leave some holes in the rest of the team.

braun is a top 5 player in MLB period. Paying this guy is a no-brainer.

Worth the money. great move for a small market team. Also he seems like a decent guy(no off field issues). I dont hear about him in the news stealing $10 tee shirts from macy's.

BF fielder is in a contract year. He is gone after this season. Braun, weeks, hart are locked up and they have some decent pitching.

I kind of thought when he signed this Fielder would be gone next year. They have to free up some money for more pitching IMO.

most clubs take out insurance policies against players like this so if anything happened to them then they get reimbursed some of what they lost from the guy.

i remember the atlanta braves did this with mike hampton and they wanted him to retire so they could get some of that $$$$$$ they paid him back but he decided to come back and pitch so they were not able to collect the entire ammount but i do know that they did collect for every year he did not pitch

I think this is a great move by milwaukee why not this guy is already the face of the franchise and ever since milwaukee lost c.c. Sabathia to free agency i think this changed thier mind and how they deal with young superstars.i really like this team and think when they can get a couple extra players to go around the stars this is going to be an exciting club for years to come

speaking of upsides does any team in mlb have anywhere close the upside as the kansas city royals this club is loaded down in the farm system this will be a club that will compete in the american league in about 5-6 years

Those policies only kick in if a guy is forced out of the game. Guys that are injury prone or have their effectiveness reduced by injury are another story. I think it's a much bigger risk with pitchers though
