  • Who do you blame for the lockout?

I am curious to see who everyone blames for the NFL lockout. I could go on all day about this but I will keep my thoughts short and sweet.

The lockout is all about greed and I side 100% with the owners. I think that we will have a season because there is too much to lose. A friend of mine who has a close NFL source predicted this will go on until late August, early September.

    Here are my thoughts:

-- What other business shows its employees their books?
The owners did provide a snapshot of the league profits and those that are declining. That wasn't good enough.

-- What other employees get to dictate how much they need to get paid?
I was always under the impression if you don't like what you are getting paid, find something else.

-- What other employees can say no to more work (18 games)? In today's corporate America, what employee can say that they get paid the same and work less? Hell, it appears to just be games since there will be no contact practices, shorter OTAs, only 2 preseason games.

-- If the economy becomes worse and nobody supports the NFL (highly doubtful), will the players take a pay cut?
Again, all of the risk is on the owners.

-- The players have injury concerns?
The NFL has come a long way in protecting its players. Football can be a dangerous sport, it is a players choice to play or not to play. They get paid a TON of money!!!

Those are just a few opinions and I will finish with this. The entire financial risk is on the owners and the players just want more. At what point, do the owners say enough is enough. It appears that the time has come to say no.

Sure, the NFL has its stars but the game can also make a player (See the scab Kelvin Martin or He Hate Me). Do you really think if scabs came back, people wouldn't watch the NFL. The game is bigger than the players.

I would love to see the players work a real job for 1 week. They would run back to the bargaining table and take whatever they could.
Am I the longest tenured BC member?

I blame the fans. If we didnt spend so much money on the game and worship the teams and players, they go to back to playing for the love of the game instead of the egos and cash.

I'm guilty too - football junkie and PSL holder.

ps- I still havent bought a baseball ticket since the strike and the cancel of the world series.

The only major sport in this Country with no guaranteed contracts and not only is it the most popular (by a landslide), it is also by far the roughest. Simply ridiculous!

Since when in this Country is a signed contract meaningless? Only in the NFL. Look at the Earl Campbell story out there, along with several hundred others and convince me why contracts shouldn't be binding in this F-ing league.

Until they are, I would give the owners a big FU too and get EVERYTHING i can get since the labor agreement is up.

It is a labor "Agreement" guys. That means both sides must agree. It doesn't mean the owners can bitch slap them like a normal employee can. I think some of you guys are missing that. It isn't like these guys filled out an application for a job as a football player and was hired. It is different and the owners CHOOSE THEM, they do not go there and fill out an application. The teams actually go to the players and ask for their services. If i'm a player and you WANT ME to work for you, i'll do it on my terms or move on to the next team.

It is far more complicated than the whole "I'm a company owner and you are simply my employee" talk. Sorry but it is and i don't blame the players one bit. You want them to give a little, guarantee their fuckin pay and maybe they will do it!

Its gotta be all the hype that has been surrounding me. It's my fault. Players and owners scared of what I could do to them.
