  • NCAA Punishes Pryor and 5 Others for Rules Violations

Written December 23rd, 2010 by Eric

After days of waiting with little to no news everything finally hit the fan when Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith announced in a press conference that several Ohio State football players had committed NCAA violations.
Five players, including Quarterback Terrelle Pryor, were found to have sold championship gear – including Big Ten Championship rings – in order to earn money for their families. The action is a direct violation of NCAA bylaws and subject to suspension for several games, and the players are forced to repay the money earned in the sale to charity.
The violations, as reported by the university, and the resulting punishment are as follows.
All five players are suspended for the first five games of the 2011 Football Season. This was a change from the University mandated suspension for the upcoming Sugar Bowl.
Pryor – Repay $2,500 for selling 2008 Big Ten championship ring, 2009 Fiesta Bowl sportsmanship award, 2008 Gold Pants
Daniel Herron – Repay $1,150 for selling jersey, pants and shoes for $1,000 and receiving discounted services worth $150
Devier Posey – Repay $1,250 for selling 2008 Big Ten championship ring for $1,200 and receiving discounted services worth $50.
Mike Adams – Repay $1,000 for selling 2008 Big Ten championship ring.
Solomon Thomas – Repay $1,505 for selling 2008 Big Ten championship ring for $1,000, 2008 Gold Pants for $350 and receiving discounted services worth $155.

Prior better starting gaining weight if he wants to play pro football, tight ends are a little heavier than 233.

I actually think punishing them for the 1st 5 games of next season is a harsher penalty. If they decide to come back, Ohio St's season next year is basically ruined and if they decide to go pro (and get drafted after the 1st rd), well, Ohio St's season is basically ruined. Either way you look at it, the nCAA ruined Ohio St's season next year.

I see your point but Ohio state ruined their season not the NCAA. These guys could walk away and what do you have...

Ohio state doesn't play a huge schedule so they could make it through. Tressel does well early on and if I am guessing right they still could be easily 4-1 after the first 5 next year...

I should've clarified my statement...didn't literally mean the NCAA cost them...these guys f'ed up and they just f'ed the school, but we all know they could give a fuck less.

I forgot Ohio St schedules all the cupcakes in Ohio during their non-conference trek...though they do play Miami next year. Regardless, I think if you take the best QB, RB, and WR off any team, especially to start the season, I think they're gonna struggle.

Bryce thats the best line on this thread.... I'm funny reading things from people blaming the players when the schools are making millions from these kids and they can't use their celebrity to get a tattoo???? Walking away to go pro? No one blames the coaches when they walk away....
