Why would you anyway? It's not your money ...........

Because for most teams (other than the RS and Yanks), throwing money at guys that don't deserve as much as they get limits the team's ability to make other moves. Unlike the Red Sox and Yankees who throw money at basically anybody they want and if it doesn't work, the mindset is "oh well, we'll just cover it up by signing another guy for mega-millions." I guarantee the Nats will regret giving Werth that contract in about 3-4 yrs and it will prohibit them from signing other players. Even if CC doesn't pan out in Boston (highly unlikely), they could just move on by giving someone else $20M/year.

I do like the new manager and some of the young talent but playing in the same division as the Red Sox, Yankees (and even the Rays and Blue Jays) makes it an uphill battle every year.
