  • Reds, St. Louis Brawl

There was a brawl tonight in the Cincy Reds and St. Louis Cards game. I suggest people to pay attention to this situation once the suspensions come out because there might be opportunities in wagering that may come out...

Brawl Breaks Out at Reds-Cardinals Game
    August 10, 2010 07:35 PM EDT

A Reds-Cardinals brawl just took place at the baseball game between the Cincinnati Reds and the St. Louis Cardinals this evening. As Reds lead-off hitter Brandon Phillips went up to bat, an argument broke out between Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina and Brandon Phillips, apparently instigated by comments that the catcher made while behind the plate. Phillips seemed to take offense to what was going on, Molina tossed his mask to the ground, and the dugouts started to empty as all of the players came out. Then an intense scuffle began to break out, and many players from both the Reds and Cardinals began shoving each other up against the net behind home plate. At the end of it, no players were ejected, but the managers from both teams were ejected for escalating the situation.

This does not seem like a situation that is going to go away immediately, and it looked at least from the first videos that there was a lot of animosity going on in the scuffle, and that there could be some suspensions that result from this brawl. There also looked like the potential existed for some players to be injured during the brawl, but luckily at this time there has not been any negative news to that effect. It is theorized that this fight might have broken out because of comments that Brandon Phillips had made yesterday in regards to the Cardinals. He claimed that they were always whining and that he really hated the Cardinals. Thus it is not surprising that the Cardinals might have taken offense to it, and that could be the main reason that a brawl broke out.

The game is still continuing, and there hasn't been another incident (yet) since that one at the top of the first inning, but there is a lot of baseball still to be played tonight. The battle between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds isn't going to stop here, as the Reds hold just a one game lead over the Cardinals in the race to win the National League Central Division. This could really spark into a great rivalry between these two teams as they head into the final weeks of the 2010 regular season, and it presents a rivalry in the National League that baseball has been sorely lacking.

Hold on tight, because this Reds-Cardinals brawl might just be the first incident of bad blood that comes to the surface in this rivalry.

It happened in the bottom of the 1st, not the top like the story said and Molina got the 1st laugh with a HR!
