ATLANTA -- Two Georgia players have been arrested on alcohol-related charges, just days after the school's athletic director resigned in the wake of a drunken driving arrest.
UGA police chief Jimmy Williamson said Dontavius Deshawn Jackson, a sophomore tailback, was charged early Saturday with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and other offenses.
Split end Tavarres King was charged with underage possession of alcohol.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported King was booked at 5:55 a.m. ET, and released an hour later on $500 bond. Jackson was booked at 6:25 a.m. ET, but had not been released.
Police said they initially stopped the Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by Jackson, for a traffic violation and because officers suspected it was involved in an earlier hit-and-run crash.
Police told the Journal-Constitution no injures were reported in the hit-and-run, which was described as minor.
Two others in the car Jackson was driving were charged with underage possession of alcohol as well, according to the newspaper. Neither is an athlete at Georgia.
Jackson, 20, did not return phone messages, and a listing for King, 19, was unavailable.
Athletic director Damon Evans announced his resignation Tuesday. Frank Crumley, the executive associate athletic director for finance since 2007, was named interim AD.
