These are my own Power Rankings with my own number based formula. Most Power Rankings are opinion based by writers at many various sites. Mine are based soley on numbers and no opinion is involved in my Rankings. I'm not promoting my site by posting these because i have nothing to gain by doing that. If i'm going to take the time to do the Rankings and spread sheet every month though, i'm going to post my own instead of copying & pasting somebody else'.

They are moving up. They were 21st after the 1st month of the season. If they keep playing this way, the numbers will get evebn better and they will keep rising. As of right now though, they are not a playoff team and that actually shows in their ranking!

They are tied for the 9th best record with 2 other teams. That takes spots 9, 10 & 11 in those Rankings.

13th overall might not be that far off!

Big jump for the Dodgers too. Are your numbers season long only or do you graduate the last 10-20 games to give the hotter teams a jump?

I like your top ten. There's probably some debate about the order of those teams but they look solid to me.

Guys, This is the Formula i chose to make up my Power Rankings. I thought about it a lot as to what i wanted to use for my numbers.

I wanted something that had Zero bias involved and no opinion at all. Just numbers. I wanted to combine numbers that would cover several things including Wins, Offense, Defense and Pitching.

                    The 5 Categories are ......

Winning % - Let's face it, wins are what matters and the teams that have the most Wins are generally near the top of Power Rankings for obvious reasons. I had to include this.

Team Batting % - I wanted to credit teams for having a solid offense and this gives the better hitting teams an edge over the teams with lighter hitting lineups. Now obviously timely hitting matters but over the long haul, if you hit for a higher average than another team, you will get credit for that.

Run Differential - Some teams win a lot of close games and others put teams to sleep and win by bigger margins. This is another stat for offense that shows the explosive teams from the non explosive. It is also a stat that can reflect on pitching and defense too. You do not need to have a lot of runs every night if you can win 4-1 instead of 8-5, but in the end the run differential will be the same. On the other hand it seperates bad teams too. Several teams have bad records but some seem to always get blown out when they lose(Baltimore,Pittsburgh), and others are always in close games that come up a run or two short in the end. I love this stat.

Fielding % - Defense definately helps pitching and offense, so the teams with the best Fielding % will be rewarded.

Team ERA - Let's face it, pitching is about as important as the others all combined. Great pitching can over come mistakes in the field and it can take a ton of pressure off your offense. Earned Run Average is a great tool that tells just how hard teams are to score on. Just a 1/2 run or .50 difference between teams can mean 81 runs over the course of a season and around 10 wins. It is important and it matters.

You Add the Winning % to the Team Batting Average to the Fielding % to the Run Differential. You take that total and you Deduct the Team Era. You will start with a large number and the teams with the best ERA will have less to deduct from that number. If you are 100 points behind because of winning % or offense, you can make it up by having a team ERA of 1.00 less than the team you are trailing.

All in all i like the results and i think they are pretty accurate when you look at teams and how they are playing over the course of the season. A few might be debatable but the numbers do not lie and they always tell their own story.

And to answer poskid's question ... Season Long. Hot teams will move themselves up by improving those numbers with wins.

Obviously no formula is perfect but most sites and their Power Rankings are all based on one man's opinion. At least these are number based and no opinion is involved.
