Lobsters may be expensive elsewhere but they are pretty cheap here.
They usually aren't Maine lobsters either. We get Pacific and some other place like Gulf of Mexico or somewhere like that. I have a raincheck for 4 of them at $16.99. I believe I will be heading to the store now, because I'm craving the damn things.

Are you friggin' serious? $19.99 a pound for just tails?? Wow!!!
I have a uncle that lives in California and he says pacific lobsters taste totally different than Maine lobsters do and not nearly as good. He has some shipped from here out there every year. I've heard that from many people that warm water lobsters are simply not the same. I know down in Florida a lot of Rest. will sell lobster and advertise it as "Maine" lobster but it is very expensive there too because of shipping charges.

I would imagine they would taste different coming from cold water as opposed to the warmer water of the Pacific. I believe Pacific lobsters are bigger as well....

Kaz, I talk to people vacationing here all the time in the summer that come up here from New York and Massachusetts just for the Maine lobster. You would think it isn't that much different in Massachusetts right? Weird but people come here from all over just for the Maine lobsters. I seriously can't believe it is $40-$50 for a lobster in a rest.
It is $2.99-$3.99 a lb up here most times and sometimes it goes to $4.99-$5.99 a pound
We never eat frozen because the fresh stuff is everywhere. You can buy it picked and cooked too by the pound. It is about $25 a pound for just a pound of pure meat. You can get a pound of fresh frozen for about $5 cheaper and we have a couple of times but it isn't nearly as good as the fresh. When you freeze it, it loses a ton of the flavor!

I came to Boston when I was in college and had it there, but it wasn't too much different.
Rarely do I order it at a restaurant. They won't even put the price down. It usually just says, "Market Price." Which is short for, "A lot more than anything else on the menu."
Enjoy it man. You get the good stuff.
On the flip side, we get fresh produce at a 1/10th the price everyone else pays. And it's usually tree ripened and not picked green and ripened on a truck. Huge difference. We grow more produce in the valley I live in than anywhere else in the world. Peaches the size of grapefruits. You have to eat them in 3 sittings!

Most people don't realize that tomatoes are shipped 100% green. they have NO flavor and they actually become red while in the box. There's no taste.
There isn't anything that isn't grown here. I worked in a grape field, watching pickers pick grapes the size of your thumb, in the blistering heat. But man, those were the best grapes you can buy....It gets 115 degrees here in the middle of summer for weeks on end.
