  • Delhomme to Browns

CLEVELAND -- Free agent quarterback Jake Delhomme has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Cleveland Browns.

The QB's agent, Rick Smith confirmed Delhomme's agreement with the Browns, who have been busy trying to fix a troublesome position. Delhomme,35, was released last week after seven seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

He had been scheduled to visit the New Orleans Saints, his hometown team, but canceled the trip. Delhomme visited the Browns on Thursday but left without a deal.

Delhomme is expected to compete for Cleveland's starting job with Brady Quinn. Earlier this week, the Browns acquired backup Seneca Wallace in a trade with Seattle and released Derek Anderson.

Understand completely Wayne. Living in Panthers country, we are glad to see him go, but wish him the best. The same can be said about Peppers.

Our ire is more towards the decision makers who gave him that large contract last year. Fox may be the next one to go.

Sounds like we will be rebuilding over the next several years

Cowher is living right there and would probably love that job. Why they don't ditch Fox and go after him is beyond me ..........

Not sure, sometimes I think that the Richardson family gets too personally attached to some of these guys.

Local fans were stunned by some of the decisions the owners and coaches made. It seemed as if they were detached from their fan base until it was too late.

Coach C. would be a great hire. Unfortuantely, it may never happen

that has been rumored about Cowher---he is from my high school-Carlynton high school--anyone ever heard of that---didn't think so--yeah I know big deal---but I have followed this guy for a long time---not like I am stalking materialLOL---but he IMO will not take any job until it is right---yep he went to NC State--played in CLeve and KC...was a stud but I do not see him going to a bad situation---no way no how..he got the Pitt job and it was good for him--do you or could you see him taking a Buffalo job for the sake of TAKING it--I think he will follow a team that lost a coach due to retirement---death---or whatever--COWHER will not take a piece of shit job---if he does he will last two years MAX.

The only way the Browns could've gotten worse this year is by picking up Delhome

                  Quinn to Broncos

Quinn traded to Broncos. Looks like Jake will be the starter in Cleveland.

                  Apologies to Browns fans.

Now you know why the Browns are one of the top 3 worse teams in the league year after year

As a life long Browns fan, I love this batch of moves. Especially getting BQ out of there. He would never throw the ball downfield. He was a distraction at best. Basically, no matter who QBs the Browns next year, they will win between 3 and 6 games. They may as well get rid of all the old remnants of that last regime with the stink still somewhat fresh on them. Now they can see how Jake does while hopefully doing something to try for another "QB of teh future." Brady didn't work on, let's try again. I was hoping for secondary help at #7 (Berry, Haden, etc) but now it might be prudent to take a QB NOT named Clausen at #7. We will see.

Either way, they were going to be horrible next year anyway, may as well try to get things in order for 2-3 years down the road.

I see your point but at best they are settling for crap...Is it BQ's fault not to throw down field or the coaches Or the system to blame---with Jake's age...I would more take a young QB that may materialize than a guy who is way past his prime. I just don't get this move at all--seems like a money move to me

I agree Apples with what you said but my question is why Jake Fuckin Delhomme. We all know he is shot or Carolina wouldn't have dumped him owing him $12 million. They didn't even want him as a back-up for God sake. If you bring him in offer him $2 million a year with a ton of incentives. Who did Cleveland think they were bidding against. Nobody would have offered him anything close to that amount. While I agree Cleveland needs to start all over again bringing in JD just seems like a major waste of $. But as a Raven's fan I am glad they did.
