  • Championship Weekend discussion.....

guys lets discuss this weekends matchups.

    thoughts opinions,trends, picks,everything.

could it be Farve vs his former team (NYJ)?

I really think the league wants Farve vs. Manning that would be like the ultimate wet dream for the NFL.

as of now the under in saints/minny game looks solid.

I think Minny is too strong on both sides of the line for the Aints. I look for a more ball controlling game plan from Minny as I see AD being able to get untracked for 150+ yards and trying to keep the Aint O on the sidelines as long as possible. Jared Allen and the Williams duo up front will have pressure on Brees all game long. I'd really be surprised if the Saints make this a game.

    Minny 27-13

Ravenmaniac posted that Rex Ryan was the D coordinator for the Ravens when Peyton beat them 7 straight times. What has changed all the sudden? He had a better D back then with Baltimore than he does now.

    Colts 31-16

Saints D isn't fantastic, but what are you seeing that makes you think Peterson goes crazy? Peterson has been pretty terrible over the last two months. He has cracked the 100 yard barrier one time in the last 11 games, and that was against the Lions. He has averaged WAY under 4 yards per carry.....closer to 3 yards........over the last 8 games.

I kind of think Minnesota is the better all around squad, but it is hard to ignore what a different team they are on the road. They have lost 4 of their last 5 road games, including the last two against very bad teams.....Carolina and Chicago, and they were playing for a ton (home field) in those games. They are 9-0 at home and 4-4 on the road. Let's look at their road wins.......Detroit, St. Louis, Cleveland, and Green Bay. I think we can toss out three of those wins, leaving GB as the only good team they have beat on the road all year.

What I'm seeing is a 21st ranked defense against the run in the Saints and a game plan that is more run oriented knowing how potent the Saints offense it. Good enough for you?

This thread was opened for discussion, I wasn't trying to offend, so please don't take it that way. Just bringing up points for discussion.

I agree that will certainly be the Vikings game plan, but that has been the game plan against the Saints 17 times this year and it has only worked a couple times.

My bigger point was what a disappointment Peterson has been this year. He is a very good back, but people talk like he is heads and shoulders above everyone else, and he just isn't. Vikes rushing attack is only ranked #12, so they don't have a dominant run game.

Last weekend the Ravens brought the #5 rushing attack to face Indy's 25th ranked rush defense, and Indy held them in check. I think this time of year the rankings don't mean all that much.

anyone have any thoughts on the totals this weekend?

                    I like saints/vikings under 52.5 i think both D's come to play.

as far as the jets/colts i think that one could easily go over.

this year you mean? Jets D is better. Jose Flacco sucks as a QB.....Dirty Sanchez isnt much better. Jets Rb's i'd take over Ray Rice and McGayhee. So yeah i think the jets are different and better then the ravens but thats just me.

Also note Baltimore lost to the Bungles 2x this year and the colts 2x. Jets beat the bungles 2x and colts once. Stay Tuned!!!!

I still think he's pretty darn good. Check out how few more rushes he's had this year as compared to last. Teams have thrown 8 in the box consistently and made Favre beat them, and up until this point, he has imo.

I agree with you, they are very similar. Edge to the Jets on defense, but both have QBs that will have a very difficult time beating you. Flacco at least has an extra year and did show early in the year he could beat someone, where Sanchez hasn't shown that yet. I think the running games are very similar, but Ray Rice is the most talented RB on either team. Neither team has any WRs that scare anyone. Neither team has a TE that scares anyone either.

Jets were extremely lucky to beat SD. Not only was Kaeding an embarrassment, but SD stubbornly stuck by LT all game, and he was just awful....been awful all year. If they make Sproles the lead back they win that game.

Colts offense doesn't blow me away, so I don't think they go crazy, but at home I think they win this game something like 23-13.

this is what i posted in the poll thread.

the colts play well against ryan D's like was stated already. i don't see this turning out any different than the raven game. balt and the jets D is very similar (you don't stop manning by blitzing!), both have to run the ball, and the ravens have a qb with experience. the jets TD's in week 16 came on a kick return and fumble return against the backup QB, until the colts put the 2nd and 3rd team in the game. here is a list of colt that didn't play at all in week 16.

Melvin Bullitt - Starting Strong Safety - Did Not Play
Jerraud Powers - Starting Cornerback - Did Not Play
Clint Session - Starting Linebacker - Did Not Play
Robert Mathis - Starting Defensive End - Did Not Play
Keyunta Dawson - Backup Defensive End - Did Not Play
Charlie Johnson - Starting Left Tackle - Did Not Play
Pierre Garcon - Starting Wide Receiver - Did Not Play
Matt Stover - Kicker - Did Not Play

turnovers and special teams are the only way the jets keep this close. i don't see them getting more than 10 points on offense. if the colts get up 2 td's, and the jets have to start throwing with a rookie qb, it might get real ugly.
