Meant to post this a few days ago.Wat did everyone think about the team's decision (Irsay, Caldwell and Polian) to take Manning and some of the other starters out of Sunday's game and and give up the possibility of an undefeated season not to mention handing the Jets a playoff spot. I don't buy the theory that they are trying to protect Manning. Manning has only had 2 injuries in his career, the bursa sac last year and he had his jaw fractured in 01 but continued to play with it wired shut. Usually Manning's jersey is clean as a whistle since he rarely get sacked. You could tell by Manning's expression and body language on the sideline that he wanted to play. How often does a team have a chance to go undefeated naad make history. Besides the Colts have repeatedly rested their starters at the end of the season after they have their playoff spot clinched and usually have an early exit from the playoffs. The only time they won a Super Bowl was as in 06 when they played their regulars to the end of the season.
However the biggest problem I have is how the Colts basically decided that the Jets were going to be in the playoffs. Going intolast week there were 8 teams in contention for wild card spots (Tennessee, Jacksonville, Houston, Miami, Denver, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and the Jets). All the teams listed above, exceptPittsburgh and the Jets had played and were beaten this year by Manning and the Colts going into last week's game. Some teams like Houston, Jacksonville and Tennessee were in fact beaten twice by Manning and the Colts. I am sure all of the teams who were beaten by the Colts would love to have played a third of the game with Curtis Painter as the QB. There is no way around it, the Colts made the decision who would be one of the wild card teams. If the Colts wanted to do that this week when they were playing Buffalo and the game had no playoff implications, be my guest. I am not sure, what if anything can be done, to prevent this from happening again but I have a major problem with what the Colts did last week. It almost calls into question the integrity of the game.
