Fat Phil is a UT alumni/all american. No way he goes to the Gators.I think Tubby is a damn good coach and would be a good fit in a program pretty much starting over.

i got lucky and bet it has soon as i heard why he was leaving. if he was leaving for another job, i would have never bet it, but leaving like he is, i think florida wins by 20+ now. before this, i thought cincinnati would play well because they were pissed at kelly and florida would just go thru the motions.
now, florida might play the best game they have played in years just for meyer. i think this gets them focused and a reason to win now.
i think the line comes back between 14-17.

new coach of florida - long shot guesses - gruden or stoops

I think that coach at Utah has a good shot. Dan Mullin will be getting a call also.

there has to be more to this story IMO. If not then i applaud him for doing what is best for him and his family. I honestly believe though that there must be some kind of major violations or sanctions pending or NFL or something working in the pipeline that has not been released to the public. I'm not believing for one second that he is gonna be done with coaching and still work @ florida in a non-coaching roll. The guy aint wired that way.

Things getting a little bit easier for Georgia and Tennessee. Mullin gone last year, Strong gone this year, Meyer gone, Teebow gone, and a lot of others on that defense. Florida still has as much talent as anyone, but the guys they are losing are irreplaceable.

ESPN now reporting that Meyer has been hospitalized several times since the SEC Championship game with chest pains. Herbstreit s/w him and said the chest pains are very frequent. That really could be it. This guy has won a couple championships, has all the money in the world, and when your health is failing, some guys are actually smart enough to step away.

Bry, I've got a good friend in college coaching and he said its true about Meyer. He has been in the hospital a few times in the last 3-4 years with stress related symptoms. His wife didn't want him to coach the last 3-4 games and he has lost weight. Meyer can't coach anyway but 100% in all aspects of the game. The only way for him to "chill" is to walk away for a while.
I agree that he will be in coaching again and so does my buddy but he feels that Meyer will take at least a year or two off.
Now, this is what they are all being told. If something is in the works with NFL or NCAA sanctions, it is being kept VERY quiet.
I hope for Meyers reputation that this is on the "up and up" and it is not a smoke screen.
Meyer has been a class act everywhere he has been and if this is a smoke screen, he will be tarnished for a long, long time.
I believe it is true and he justs needs to step back.

they guy is a perfectionist 1st of all so like dave said there is no way he can be involved unless he's running the controls....I'm not going to go out on a limb and say there is something else other than his health, although i do believe it is just health issues...

When i think of college football Urban is one of those guys i think about in the new day, of course, you have paterno and bowden and those guys will always be thought of. I just can't think of anyone that accomplished what he did in the time that he was a head coach. I understand a lot of people wouldn't think if him as hall of fame type coach, but i do. His numbers as a head coach are ridiculous. I wish him well.

tech had a good one with petrino, he will get a call, and whittingham at utah is pretty good too. 2 other guys that i think would be great to take over at florida would be Patterson at TCU and Peterson from boise, but i'm pretty sure those guys are not going anywhere. I know this is really out there but would spurrier go back to florida ? just a thought.

I dont post much, but read the threads alot. Im a lifelong gator fan. Foley's list of replacement candidates will be:
                            Will Muschamp
                            Dan Mullen
                            Jon Gruden (for some reason)
Bob Stoops (though I think he will be an unlikely hire, because he spurned UF a few years ago when offered the job)

If odds came out id bet Muschamp or Mullen

I agree and I heard the same thing regarding chest pains ... I honestly do not think the NFL has anything to do with this ...

I wish him the best ... Good guy and Great coach ...

i think it might have been my fault for bringing up this nfl idea.It was roughly 10 minutes after i heard the announcement and was speculating before the news about his health came out.he is a class act no way does he take an nfl job and do this to florida
